Not trying to establish a competition at all. Just trying to understand how the shows are the same or different.

Sounds to me based on the comments so far, that the vintage purest would want to have HO as a first priority and the VW enthusiast with interest for all types of VW's OEM and otherwise would have BC as theirs.

How do the swaps compare?

How about the other related sight-seeing things? The Grundmann collection looks fantastic, I don't know much about Lotterman.

How about lodging opportunities and transporation between the site and an airport? Seems like HO has a train nearby?

I'd love to be able to someday get to both, but for us working stiffs in the US pouring all our descretionary money into resurrecting old VW's, it will have to be one or the other for now.

Nancy

Both meetings are original pre 67 only. They are both the best on earth for me.
Hessisch have a plus for the collection of Christian and his father.
The Lotterman collection is not open for public. It was once open several years ago and then some parts were stolen . I remember it like yesterday when late Heinz Willy Lotterman announced on Friday evening that he whould cancel the whole meeting.

As for the acces, BAD CAMBERG is not that far from Frankfurt, German main airfield . Rental cars and train can get you there.
As for parts; Most vendors and privat persons with some parts go to both. No comparison at that point.

And it is like Christian wrote, It is not a competition to what meeting is the best. There is no " best meeting"
For me it is this one, for you it is another one. Depend on what you like.
Hessisch is in the town, spread over the whole town, Camberg is at the sport field with around the vendors....the town is nice to see but nothing like in Hessisch where the shops are all in to the meeting with VW-dressed-up windows.

The main thing is that there is every 2 years a huge meeting for old and original VW's....
See you there...

I've been to both ('07 BC and '09 HO) and am just thankful for the dedication to the hobby of the folks that put these events on. Both are like NOTHING we have in the US. I'll be back....

I'll be there for sure!!!!!!

yes it is (was?) a split. even a little worse then yours was. it has a big windshield :( im still collecting the parts, but wont "fix" these things for now. make it driveable and shock some people ;). in some way its history too... :)

You need to create a thread on this car! (Yes, I searched for one and did not find it.)

Wife and I went to '07 BC and '09 HO. John's right....there's nothing in the US like either of these, (although Kimball's Treffen in Southern California was nice). And they are quite different, so best not to compare. There is so much to see and do at both.

By the way, there is good train service to BC from Wiesbaden and beyond. Just a short walk to the show from the Bad Camberg train station.

We'll be back....only wish we could put on a show like these here in our country

Looks like I will have to keep track of this thread and mark the date on my calendar for my 2011 trip to Germany! Best part is Bad Camburg is only about 30 mins from my inlaws in Wiesbaden!

Bad Camberg is the oldest of the two, and has a very good reputation. However, some have have critized the last event in 2007 for admitting lowered cars on the showground, causing the event to loose some of its authentic charm.

Has any guidelines been published in regards of this comment above in relation to the upcoming event?

I was at Bad Camberg in 2003, missed 2007 due to a major injury, will be there in 2011 for sure. Funny thing was, at 7 am on the Friday, there were nothing but Americans, felt like I was at Pomona  ! I tested a couple German vendors for inflated prices, sure enough there was an American surcharge  I had my German friend buy stuff for me to avoid the markups. Made some great lasting friendships on that trip!

I'm going to ship my 60 mango standard over to drive around right after the Shasta Snow Trip.

BTW, I was living and working in Germany at the time and was able to attend the first Bad Camberg Vintage VW meeting in July, 1979. The event was not huge as it is now and the Vinatge VWs attending filled up the parking lot across from Lottermans VW dealership. It was such a great time back then and over the years and I am looking forward to attending the 2011 meeting.

Here is a photo from the 1979 meeting and that is Rolf Vidal (left), myself, and Mr. Lotterman (right). At the time, we were all owners of a Hebmuller Cabriolet.

Two friends and I attended the Bad Camberg meeting in 2007. It was my first time every going to one of these "worlds best"vw shows. It was simply amazing! It was like nothing I had ever seen before. The atmosphere in the little town and at the show grounds was so cool, the food and beer was awesome and just being in Germany was great.
I loved it and can hardly wait to go back. I want to go to the Hessisch Oldendorf show too someday just so I can say I attended both shows at least once in my vw life.

Anyone planning on taking their VW's over for the next BC show? I plan to take mine over for the summer next year for some much needed holiday fun and plan to attend BC, the European Bug In and whatever other shows there may be that time of year. I am interested in hearing from people on the west coast interested in doing something like this.

I couldn't agree more - even when it rained it didn't dampen the spirit of the day. Everyone just crunched into the tent and had a beir! I probably won't make it for 2011, unless I can talk the fiancee into it as our vacation again

OK, John. It looks a bit like that. :)

But in fact you know. The early bird catches the worm.
