Hi Tim,
here´s a scan of the pricelist which was in the 1953/54 swiss-sos-box.
Now everybody can collect the parts to get also a sos-box
Cheers
Claus

PS: Everett....this will all not fit in your mini-sos-box

I find it interesting that there are two sems, both SHO, one a 111 953 021E and an 021F. Those two are basically identical I think (Matt??). Also, that they had progressed all the way to the 021F by '53/54? The 3x3 numbering system wasn't even used until mid-late '53.

I have to look at my date coded SHO sems, I thought I saw an 021C dated '56 sometime.

Claus, is there a date on the kit/paperwork somewhere???

Ninamashr Wed Jul 27, 2011 11:11 am

What I find interesting is who needs an EMERGENCY semaphore or even less two !?

johnshenry Wed Jul 27, 2011 11:14 am

Ok, according to Matt's page at:

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/semaphores.php

The 021E was an SHO used '59-'61
The 021F was an SWF used '59-'61

Makes sense the kit would have one each of an SHO and SWF, so in a repair, they could match what was on the other side.

But in the kit pics shown, both are SHOs. You can tell by the three large rivet holes in the body under then terminal board.

Hope you didn't pay "full price" for that kit Claus ....

Those must have been put in the box sometime later as I think E's and F's were '57-'60 era. They are also yellow lens rather than orange so definitely later than '53/'54.

johnshenry Wed Jul 27, 2011 11:17 am

Oh duh, there the date 10.3.60 at the bottom of the paper. that jives with the sem part numbers...

I think that might have been a service kit that was sold/marketed to independent service garage type places. Sort of your "basic" parts kit for that "side of the road" shop. Although I'm sure there were some rich mechanics who owned VWs who would have one as well...

John, the list is just in the box because of the higher prices. I think they made a new list every year for the VW shops to put it into the box, the numbers have changed sometimes. The first prices and the old part numbers are printed in the lid. I can not scan it. I wil check the numbers. I will check the numbers maybe they are different to the numbers on the newer list...

Ok thanks. I'd be interested to know the part numbers on the sems in the box, and the date codes on them as well.

Thanks Claus,
I love that there are prices too!!
My wife was right, I have definitely been spending too much for my VW parts.
Well, I won't be showing her this.................or how much I've really spent.

Total cost Fr. 306---

I think this was a lot of money in 1953/54!

I will pay you this price today, converted to US dollars. :)

Hi John,
I´ve checked the box. The numbers on the lid are the same like on the list. So the box is younger than 1953/54. What do you think, when came the newer numbers? A guy from switzerland told me that Amag produced the box for the dealers from 53 till 1960. They put a lot of split stuff in those boxes because only older VW´s had maybe a problem
Cheers
Claus
