Hey guys, got this 73 Bay a while ago and I am now getting it going and going to start doing some upgrades. I got this for free off a couple that my girlfriend was buying a barina from... they were moving overseas and while I was checking out the Barina I saw this in the carport and commented on how sweet it was and my affinity for Kombis.
He went on to ask me if I knew anybody that might want it, so I asked him how much he wanted for it (at the time I was quite broke) and he said that if I could tow it I could take it! Needless to say I went back to their house in about 15 mins to tow it away!
Also here is a photo of the engine... I have read a fair bit about checking the fuel lines to make sure that they are of the braided type, can someone tell me if this is the fuel line that I have pointed to in this pic?
It isnt registered and needs a new battery but thats about it, there is a little bit of rust under the windshield that I have to bog up but apart from that the engine just needs a bit of a tune.
To start off with I wanted this as a camper, but now I am thinking of turning it into a touring bus to seat 8 (which is a bit of a shame because its already kitted out fairly well as a camper). Any ideas? |

No way man, thats unbelievable. Free. thats a dream come true right there. :D
that hose you pointed at is the air supply for the central idling system. the fuel enters the carbs on their fronts- (front of bus) side. should be a 13mm line.
yeah, that free bus of yours is crazy. authentic Aussie Roo bar on the front and fog lights and everything. looks like its wearing a smurf hat:
Congratulations =D> |

| That bus is way too nice to make into a people hauler. I wish my riviera interior was in as good a shape as your interior. And you can just send the roo bar my way too  |

Wow... that's AWESOME. That is such a nice bus... absolutely beautiful.
It would be an absolute shame to turn it into a passenger bus. If you really need something to haul people around you should sell that bus and buy another one... that way somebody that can use that set up can enjoy it. |

Beauty! Keep it a Camper! Buy a passenger bus to do the tour scene. OTOH if you can get the right 7 young ladies to go camping w/you it might not be too bad either. 8)
Great deal. Enjoy. |

You suck!
Just kidding. :P Free, helluva nice score. I have to agree, it would be a shame to change that interior out for hauling people. That thing is practically begging to go camping. |

| With a bumper like that you should be able to make it across the Pacific and all the way to NJ. Nice score, and best of luck! |

Cosmic!
You ran into a very kind couple.
I tend to agree with the others: a people mover is not the soul of this machine. You aren't gonna get any mpg, er, kilometers per liter with the Trump Tower on your roof.
I dunno, I would use it for camping or maybe selling hotdogs and beer roadside.
Or if this machine was in the USA, I would create a kiosk to promote the sanity of the metric system. |
