View original topic: 15x6 Fuchs up front, issues?

Hi. I have a 69 bug and I just picked up a pair of 15x6 Fuchs that I would like to put up front. I will be purchasing some disk brakes with the correct bolt pattern. I am not planning on slamming the car, but I would like to lower it about 2 inches, no lower than that as the rear will remain stock height. I am not sure how this will all work out. I am guessing that I will need a narrowed beam. Other than that, what kind of challenges can I expect? Has anyone else put this size wheel up front? Any info will be greatly appreciated.-Frank

Some questions for you -- Are you going to drop the front using an adjustable beam, dropped spindles, or a combination (say using a 50/50 adjustable beam)?

What is the ET (offset) of the wheels? Will the disc brakes you are looking at add to track width? What size tire do you want to run on those 6" rims in the front?

Bare with me as I am a noob, trying to figure this out....I was thinking adjustable beam to lower, so I can order it narrowed as well, and have the dropped spindles. I am not sure of the offset, I will need to go and find that info. The disk brakes I am looking at are on CB Performance, with the Porsche pattern. Not sure how much they will add. I will have to call them and ask. I am uncertain about the tires. I would guess that I will use whatever size will work the best, and right not I dont know what that would be. I figure it make take me some time to plan this out right, so it fits together nicely and doesnt rub.

if you run CB drop spindles and disk brakes with drilled pattern. you can run a fuchs 15x6 with 145s with no rubbing issues.

i have done it to 2 different cars.

the only issue you might run into is the lower ball joint might hit the rim. on 1 set of spindles i had this problem. i think they didnt machine the spindle deep enough. i had ron lumas racing ream the spindle a little deeper and it worked great.

Your spindles are a fixed 2 1/2" drop. If you are going to use those I'd think a 50/50 adjustable beam would be best -- that is the adjusters are welded in to give a 4" range of motion, 2" up to 2" down. And you will likely need it narrowed, though I can't say how much. The spindles will add anywhere from 1/4" to 5/8" each side in track width.

Personally I wouldn't run 145s on a 6" rim. I'd think 175-195 would fit better, but you'll have to figure out which fits best (e.g. 175/55 or 185/65, etc)

Good luck. I am going through the same thing now, but I have yet to find the right wheels for me. Once I have the wheels I can start to figure everything else out, but I will likely also used dropped spindles and a 50/50 adjustable beam, probably narrowed 2 or 3 inches.

look at the inside of the wheels for the offset.. should be stamped " ET - two numbers"

drop spindles might make the balljoints rub on the inner portion of the wheel if the offset is too low.

brakes will push out the wheels 1/4" on both sides
drop spindles will push out the wheels 1/4" on both sides

you do know that the more you narrow your beam, torsion leafs and tie rods,.. the wider your turn radius will be.. if you dont mind doing constant 3+ point turns then i would suggest go with a 4" narrowed beam w/ adjusters.

They aren't marked.
6" Fuchs have a 36mm offset.
