Having recently vented my frustration here about a few things that dont match up on one of my lovelies (sun vizor / rear view mirror incorrect for year.... correct year fenders... early horn buttons...)

I wondered what gets everyone else frustrated? what missing bit, or incorrect year bit gets you wound up on your cars, or other people's cars?

Should be interesting reading :-)

what irks me the most is in the Samba and ebay classifieds. When someone list and item for sale and has no idea of what it is supposed to fit. i.e. Window cranks for bug, ghia, bus and Thing. Window cranks for a Thing? really? :evil: Muffler for 51 thru 79 beetle. Really?? :evil: You have all seen these ads. It's tough enough to match the right parts to your car without some idiot misleading you with stupid information. Another large seller from Ill. includes 55 56 57 - 78 79 Super Beetles. What???

oh yes, big time this one. Theres a guy in the UK selling two rag tops almost complete (no roof) but will not confirm what he has, 3 fold or 2 fold. Frustrated, but I mailed him to say I wont bid if he wont confirm. Id say a good percentage of the used parts I am interested in don't know what period they are. I've even politely mentioned to one he didn't have a Karmann Ghia for sale (as advertised) & that it was a Karmann Cabriolet making sure I didnt sound pompous but had the response, "get a life".

I dont like the different meanings people use.

NOS= New Old Stock. Only acceptable definition

NOS= Neat old stuff.

NOS= Nice old stuff.

People advertise crap as NOS routinely.

warrior1641 Thu Feb 18, 2010 4:35 pm

I really hate when people say they new somone that put a (porsch) motor on a bug and it was scarry fast

crazyoval Thu Feb 18, 2010 4:47 pm

There was a guy here in the Uk recently who was trying to sell "NOS Porsche 356 wheels" that he added in the detail were actually repros but said they were NOS because they were purchased 20 years ago and had never been used.

I felt that stretched the use of the term too...

Yea, the Porsche in the bug story is like the only thing most people who have no idea about bugs say because they have no idea what else to say. Best say nothing I think.

what got my goat....pack of coyotes :wink:

Patina/ taking offers/ not being up front in an advertisment,not telling the whole story=fraud

When people Want to much money for parts. Ex:a guy at a show wanted 75$ for a Broken Hornbutton

Schwing Thu Feb 18, 2010 6:33 pm

When people sell cars in "good" condition with no motor.

Here's the definition of good:
3 - Good - Presentable inside and out with some signs of wear. Not detailed but very clean. Body should be straight and solid with no apparent rust and absolutely no rust-through anywhere. Shiny, attractive paint but may have evidence of minor fading or checking or other imperfections. Runs and drives well. May need some minor mechanical or cosmetic work but is fully usable and enjoyable as is.

I like ti believe NOS means New Old Stock not Nasty Old Shit. That is why I prefer swap meets over the internet.

Yep...Me too..."NOS." There was once a time when NOS actually meant "NEW OLD STOCK." Translation= new, unused, never installed, never run, old but NEW!!! Now it seems NOS has taken on a totally different meaning. :evil: :x New definition=Looks kinda new, it still has life in it, it looks better than most I've seen, It's a fairly new reproduction (never installed and made in China), it doesn't look like it's used (even though I took it out of a parts car barn find). I cleaned all the grease and grim off of it, now it looks NOS. Or "I found it on a shelf, it must be NOS." This drives me nuts to no end....Be honest and tell it like it is...It's either NOS or it isn't... :roll:

Yep...This drives me nuts too. I recently encountered one of these situations. The seller told me to make him a fair offer. I didn't respond with some stupid low offer. I responded with what I thought was fair based on my past dealings with similar parts. However, obviously the seller was offended and went on to counter my offer and went on to tell me to send out a call ticket for pick up. Prior emails stated he had no problem shipping. I responded asking questions about a call ticket. He didn't respond so I sent him another email stating I would accept his price and kindly asked him if he would ship it UPS, Fed-Ex or USPS (of course that I would pay for). No response...My advice for the seller, instead of wasting everyone's time is to put it on ebay with a reserve. I'm sure his business is through the roof :roll: . He probably hasn't sold anything in 2 months. What a waste of time. :x :shock:

What they said. It has been relegated to having about as much meaning as "fresh" in a gas station snack food isle.

#1 At a work bench, using a tool, sitting it down, reaching for it and it's gone :o
#2 Crawling under the car with tools, lay them down and blindly reach for that tool and it can't be found :?
#3 Dropping the nut that goes into a black hole and is never to be found :x
#4 Smelling something burning while your welding, getting up.... looking around and discovering it's you :oops:
#5 Someone asking what happened, "Did you hurt yourself?" and you had no idea that blood was all over you 8)
#6 Putting that last little twist on a bolt and it snaps off :evil:
#7 Someone sneaking up from behind and yelling "Waz Up" :shock:

How about when the parts shop sell you the wrong parts? IMO you shouldn't have to consistently drag down old parts to match them to replacements they are trying to sell you. It just seems like back in the 80's to mid 90's the guys behind the counter knew their @%$!. These days you don't know what you'll end up with. Of course, I don't mean to generalize. It's just an observation. I know there are still plenty of suppliers and counter people that have vast knowledge. I took a pretty long break from the VW game (1994-2006). It just seems like things have changed... Am I wrong? :?: :(
