I was surfing around JustKAMPERS website and seeing what they offered and a couple things caught my eye.

First is a heated windshield:

Has anyone used a heated windshield? What are the advantages?

Also this interior locking bar:

I assume it is to keep people from breaking in when you are sleeping inside. Necessary? Would you use it?

they don't allow firearms in the UK but we do in the USA. Less chance here of someone coming in because they would have no clue what awaits them. Could be OO buck.

Looks like they ship the windshields to mainland U.K. only. However, the Hella switches w/colored lenses offer some possibilities. http://www.justkampers.com/shop/type_2_bay/catalog...gyHaRH4%3D

That would be very clean hooked to a set of foglights...

I think that this is a good idea but way too expensive:

They looked very high quality, and are powdercoated... I think 257 pounds is pretty good.

Well, maybe I'm wrong about this but a heated windshield might be a good idea for a vehicle that has crappy defrosters. Does anyone happen to own one?

yes - there have been several comments on them over the last year. All in the UK. I don't have the threads but the should come up in search.

I need one of those for my fogs. Shipping has got to be a couple limbs, respectively.

Shipping won't actually be as much as you think, plus it will be VAT (tax) free. With the exchange rate at the moment ghat bed seat will only be about $400 plus shipping, and for the bed the shipping would be quite a lot unless it comes in pieces you slot together.

chrisradioman has a heated windshield. The price has come down since I first looked into it. I have had some rental cars in the UK with them and they are amazing. Turn them on and defrost your very foggy windshield in 30sec or less. The current draw is pretty good though. Something like 14 or 15 amp. I am thinking about getting one shipped to a friend of mine and driving over to pick it up. My bus is my daily driver and I am tired of carrying towels to wipe off the inside of the windshield.

The bed looks really nice but shipping would be killer even if it comes apart. Then you would have to pay customs.

I love the comment about UK firearm laws! I think those door bars are because you can usually open up a VW with a spoon handle!

most cars here have a heated front screen now, i've seen one used on a bay and they are pretty good. Everything here is expensive, but we are now a lot cheaper than most of central Europe due to the exchange rate. It was a time (around 2 years ago) when the $/£ exchange rate was 2 for 1, its now around $1.55/£1.

Its no longer such a bargain buying californian sunshine cars

Several of the UK Bus suppliers have neat stuff...makes me a little envious. I have UK envy

I am moving back to the UK in June and taking my westy with me!!

chabanais Fri Feb 19, 2010 6:34 pm

15 amps sounds kind of high to me.

At 12v and 15 amps it is 180 watts so......

Well, lets see, a long time ago, Ford Tauruses had heated windshields. Who has them in the U.S. now? Anyone?
Besides, the film in them will not allow your radar detector to function. Big compromise, there.
Really a good idea, funny how the U.K. has so many of them, yet the U.S. cars do not. I guess the bean counters will not allow them over here, at the price of profit over safety, once again.
Now you got me started....... :!:

you obviously haven't seen the new heat reflective standard for next generation cars then... coated windows that block not only solar heat but radio emissions...

you know
if you folks have any ideas for bay window goodies and dont want to get the major shipping woa's
i build just about everything else. give me a email and some paper towel
drawings and ill fab it up. a good thing to do when your bus bar jams up and you cant get out of the bus.

You should try getting FI parts over here.
or rust free panels

I have US junk yard envy. I haven't seen a bay in our junk yards since the 80's

Fullerton'71 Fri Feb 19, 2010 11:55 pm

You don't see bays in junk yards here. You gotta go to the VW salvage yards for that. 8)
