I am attempting to run a Porsche 924 tach in my beetle. I have it all wired up but it is not working. The needle does nudge when I put the key to the "acc" position. The needle also jumps to whatever the RPM was when the engine was shut off when I shut the engine down. Basically it is like the tach is working when the key is not in the start position. Any ideas?

I should add. The ground is good. The tach is getting full power. How would I check I am getting a good signal from the coil? Should it just emit 12v?

Try connecting he tach positive lead to a terminal that isn't keyed (ie the radio/accessory terminal on the fuze box).

Yea, I have the 12v power line from the radio fuse right now.

This is probably a stupid question, but; is it possible there are any polarity issues with the tach? Should I try switching the ground wire to the power terminal? I would rather not melt anything.
