| Good morning all, I've come across a pair of 40mm single Barrel carbs for sale. What do you think about putting them on a 77 westy that currently has a poor functioning progressive? |

| I personally have not run them but I did a lot of research on carbs last year when I needed new ones. I think anything will be better than the webber. Ive read about people using the 40mm carbs and being happy with them. That thing will breathe nice! Do a search and you will find lots of info on using larger carbs. I used 34mm webers and was super happy with them but it was on a smaller engine. (1800). |

What condition are the carbs in? You can spend a lot of time "debugging" 2ndhand carbs to get them to work. |

| They look good, the guy selling them is buddys with a local and respected VW parts house. They've been around since the mid 70's. |

The good news is you'll be rid of the POS progressive. The bad news is I never liked dual singles. Spend the coin and get a set of dual IDFs. It will be money well spent. |

| I believe my Kadrons are single barrel. I think Keifernet is the Solex expert. Solexpert? |

| I'm running dual kadrons on my 76' solid lifter 2.0L. It runs really good, but even adjusted right I'm running rich. I think I need to drop a size on my mains? www.Lowbugget.com is the authority on kads I believe. I wish I would have bought mine from them. These run good for the money IMPO. |

| I've had lots of luck with the stock ('73) dual single barrel solexes until I got some dirt in em, no fault of their own, and dual Kadrons on a 1600 SP (not many miles driven, but driveability is very good)> I will also second Glenn's preference for anything other than the 2 barrel progressive. I have used lots of them on water-cooleds and they aren't a bad carb, but they seem to wear shafts quickly and it takes a bit of doing to get them tuned correctly. |
