thanks for the troubleshooting ideas. i already tried the 3rd one...sanding the pulley and cleaning the belt. nothing there...so im going to give the other two a shot. i'll let ya know

Your noise doesn't sound like the problem but a cracket fan is not that uncommon. They can fail right around the mounting hub. Sometimes it's fairly hard to determine. If it's real bad you can feel it flex when you push and pull hard on it. If you end up taking the generator out also remove the fan and carefully inspect the center of it for a circular crack.

I had a cheap Chinese repro Youtube fail just a little while ago, made more of a clicking sound though :wink:

usually a bad genny bearing makes a moaning sound. i would check to be sure you dont have some plastic caught in the fan. that happened to me once.

i finally got time to get into my engine bay and figure out whats going on. i got the generator out and took off the fan. i saw there was some rubbing on the outside of the fan housing with the fan shroud. i took some shims out and now WALLAAAA!!!! no whistling!! i love my bus !

i finally got time to get into my engine bay and figure out whats going on. i got the generator out and took off the fan. i saw there was some rubbing on the outside of the fan housing with the fan shroud. i took some shims out and now WALLAAAA!!!! no whistling!! i love my bus !

Crap.. got here too late. I was gonna tell you to check that. I had that problem before also. It makes a very odd sound but if you just spin the engine over by hand you can hear it slightly rubbing or dragging. I just wiggled my fan shroud a lil and it was gone.
