View original topic: Our new '52 crotchcooler split - engine question

After selling our '57 oval a few months ago, we finally bought a '52 crotchcooler split.
It's totally roadworthy, only needs some T.L.C.
After checking the engine today, I noticed the code on the engine.
Can anyone tell me more what this means ?
Is has the original 26FVIS carburator, but the engine looks like a '55 and later case.
The inscription says, 29-09-1955.........but KDF and the code underneath ?!

Since the Swedish-rebuilt engines are prefixed KDS, one could assume this was the 250th engine produced by VW's engine-rebuilding shop in France.

Okay, thnx!
Car came from Finland, but that's close to sweden!
Strange that the engine is stamped 1955....that was a real fast rebuild :)
it's not an original split engine, but they used a lot of Parts from THE original engine.
