A buddy of mine has a Street Beat (I think) slider that he bought for a bus he owned about 6 years ago but never installed. We did a bit of measuring and it seems like it would fit perfectly as a full-roof slider in my DC. Has anyone done this mod and specifically, any pics of it done to a DC? I am on the fence about hacking into my roof (I would actually have it done by a pro), but a full rag would be rad in my work truck... especially with other cool accesories like a rear canopy.
So... anyone have advice and/or pics? |

| I would say don't go hacking into a DC with the caveat that it is your bus and you can do as you wish. It seems it could be done well and suit your purposes but you will probably not find much support here for such an undertaking. |

| There's a roof support at the B pillar that would need to be addressed. You can't cut that thing out without reinforcing somewhere else. It'd look cool but I love double cabs as vw made them. If I ever find one worth fixing I'd leave it stock. |

| I understand the want to keep everything stock.... I am from the Type 3 crowd (re: stock nazis). But this is my work truck first and foremost and the roof has been already been hammered by POs from years of lumber, ladders and who knows what else. So if not a full slider (which would be awsome for family trips and drives on summer days), did DCs ever come with sunroofs? Again, I am trying to find pics of both, buts its hard to search the gallery from my POS PDA/phone. |

So how do I get around the issue of the roof support at the B pillar? What do I do to reinforce structure elsewhere?
And thanks for the pic links... I needed a reference to go off of. |

I had one of those aftermarket ragtops before. I personally wouldn't do it again. Leaked quite a bit. It didn't look right either.
If your dc is nice, dont do it. If its just a beater that you dont care about (doubtful) then go for it. |
