| I'm about to fit a 944 m/cyl to my 57 panel as I'm running 4 wheel discs. I'm not too keen on running a t piece in the rear circuit to fit a brake switch, so I'm thinking of running a later plunger style switch working off pedal movement. Has anyone tried this or see any problems with it? |

I have run 944 early n.a. discs and matching master cyl.
I first ran a aftermarket switch on a custom aluminum bracket to activate brake lights, worked fine but went through two switches in less than 5000 miles. bought the best I could get from local auto supply store but they are crap chinese american branded junk.
They are also slow to send the signal which is a issue when my D.C would stop faster than anything but the track car I've driven.
I later added a tee fitting and pressure switch (on rear circuit).
Works great, and if done with metric parts not a mess of adapters.
Hope that helps, and a shout out to beautiful B.C. Supernatural eh! |

There is no need to complicate things.
Just run the tee, its all stock parts. |

| Thanks guys, I'll fit the t piece. Just seems like an extra bit to leak, but considering there a million and one brake joints on a split, 2 more isn't going to hurt |

Hi All
Am I missing something? I fitted my 944 master cylinder and found that I could get nothing from the rear circuit, bought another used M/C, cheaper than a rebuild kit over here and the same has happened. Is there something peculiar about 944 M/C's that seems to cause the rear piston to stick or am I missing something vital? On both MC's after one pedal press, the endplay goes from 1mm to huge and front brakes only. When I operate them on the bench, the front circuit is the only one that works, nothing on the rears and that's 2 MC's. I used the pressure bleeder and bled the fronts to check, everything was fine, undid the pipe at the rear circuit, not even a dribble. |

Hey,
Nothing special about the 944 m.c. to be aware of.
Never had the problem of which you speak in my 944 m.c. install.
Do you have the spacer installed between the m.c. and the stock bus mounting bracket?

Hi
Yes, I do have the adaptor, got one from Lanner at Veedub. I've taken one M/C apart, seals were all ok, gave it a clean and it seems to be returning, sometimes it sticks a little, but it might get better with use. |

Sounds like you have it figured correctly.
I also got my spacer from Lanner , might ask him if the rod length is correct from your early bus. Mine was a 67 d.c. and worked perfectly.
The early 944 set-up on all four wheels (n.a. single pot with matching m.c.) braked harder than ANY car short of the open wheeled race car I have driven, also front to rear ratio was perfect without any rear lock- up.
When you have it operating correctly you will be impressed.
I would not have gone to the turbo brembos but I went to later 944 s2 suspension and they came along with it.
some more details in my Porsche powered mid engine build thread.

That is going to be an awesome van, the work is amazing.
Are there rebuild kits available for 944 master cylinders? I'm having trouble finding one. |

Hey,flipflop67 thanks for the kind words for my project, it should be a beast when I am done(a refined beast I hope)!
The best resource for Porsche parts and info is Pelican Parts, the forum is the best on this planet(for Porsche content), you probably already know that, I did a quick check in the 944 pelican parts inventory and did not find m.c. rebuild kits.
A search in the 944 forum should get you the source or it may be N.L.A.
My next favorite porsche parts supplier is Paragon Products.
Also "944 parts online" have a good selection and a decent forum for info and used parts.
What are your brake and suspension specs, that would help me with suggestions and tips.

Hi Stephen
Thanks for all the info. I tried pelican, but like you I couldn't find a rebuild kit.
I've thought about the idea of a flat 6 in a split, rear mounted, I hadn't even thought about a mid mount, although it makes much more sense.
I think it would be far too much hassle to get it engineered over here, the laws are nonsensical and not even that safe, but pretty draconian all the same. |
