Hey everyone! I recently got my first VW bus not too long ago. I'm loving her so far, not too many troubles. Just the other day after turning off the van i noticed that i could hear a noise as though something was still drawing energy from the battery. I checked around but didn't really know what was going on. The next morning the battery was drained.

I had a friend come over and we looked around, had the battery charged up. Same thing, engine shuts off and the noise stays. We discovered that it is the fuel pump not shutting off. We pulled the relay and it seems to be fine, not damaged or anything (i could be wrong). If we wiggled the relay with the cords still plugged in you could hear the noise turning off and on like something wasn't connected right maybe? I'm just wondering if anyone knows what's going on here and what i can do to fix it? Thanks a lot!

Give the double realy a "rap" with a wrench to see if that helps. Mkae sure it is well gounded even if you have to run a wire to ground it.

Been here?

Check and clean your connections.

Have you tried replacing the relay?

I'm going to grab my buddies relay and see if it works, i'd like to avoid buying a new relay if possible. Thanks for the help!

there is a set of points in the AFM. They trigger the double relay which in turn triggers the fuel pump. You can use an ohm meter on the pins, shown in Bentley to see if they are seperating. I had one rebuilt AFM that was not adjusted right and the fuel pump was never off. Also if the flap in the AFM gets sticky and doesn't return all the way at rest, that can cause it too. Look there is changing the relay doesn't fix it.
