Just wanted to give everybody a heads up that there was a woman selling a 1954 oval for $4400... its a scam. I contacted her and she sent me a fake Ebay account and than requested I pay with Western Union. You can see the original on a deleated Ebay post (do a google search for SDDX54). If its to good to be true, it usually is. Sorry to all the rest that believed they found there dream VW at a unbelievable price also. Good luck.

It's now listed in the DC Craigslist (in the wrong category at that). Maybe I should reply that I can go see it and have cash in hand!

Wrote to them:

"Hi,

I live in DC and would like to come by to see the car.
I have cash in hand, and can stop by tomorrow or Saturday if you're available.

Thanks"

It was posted as a "North Shore, MA" location too. The woman "Barbara Miller" replied and said that she traveled a lot and the transaction would have to be handled via eBay "to protect both parties".

I did the same thing searched on that SDDX54 (nice of these scammers to give us a text string to discover the damn thing is listed all over the place, huh?).

Oh, I still have the reply, here it is:

Quote:
Hello there,
The car is located in York, ME .The price for the car is $4400 and it includes shipping and border fees. The car It's in perfect condition without any mechanical problems, with no damages or hidden defects,no need for additional repairs, clear title without any accidents, liens or loans..I had a buyer from California but his loan was not approved and now the car is still for sale.Shipping is already paid, as I explained, my buyer couldn't take the loan after I made the arrangements to ship the car,and the trucking company won't refund me, but I am able to ship the car anywhere in USA.As I travel a lot and I can't do this transaction personally, the transaction will be made thru eBay for the safety of both of us and so we can be sure of the legitimacy of our deal...to do that i need your full name and full shipping address and ebay will contact you shortly with all the information you need.
I have to let you know that I want a fast deal because I have some financial problems right now.
Please reply me asap if interested

on the Pittsburgh Criagslist they put on a split window bus. Of course i sent him an e-mail. The guy said the bus was in North Dakota and he'll gladly ship me the bus included in the $2000 price...

It was funny... 3 of my buddies saw it and did the samething.. lol.

Too bad someone couldnt send them a virus or a computer worm to erase all their scams!!!!!!!!!!

Tell Barbara L Miller you are an avid car enthusiast/collector and you have a contact up there in York, ME because you have had stuff shipped into York Harbor before and that he would have to physically check the car and give it a good bill of health. If the car checks out, done deal.

HA! Similar to John's reply:

Quote: Hi again,
The car is already at the shipping company in San Francisco, CA with all the taxes payed waiting for the destination and they don't show the car to anyone if i am not there.
Allow me to explain the payment terms and I am asking you to confirm you agreement:
The payment process will be very simple. It will all be handled by eBay. So mainly you have know that the money will be sent to an eBay agent that will handle our case. The transfer will be verified by the eBay agent and as soon as it confirms they will instruct me to send the car over. After you receive the car, you will have 5 days for inspection. After this trial period, let the eBay agent what your final decision is. If you keep the car, ONLY then they will release the money to me and the deal will be closed. If you decide from whatever reason that the car is not what I advertised, it will be taken back and your money will be refunded 100% by the eBay agent.
If you accept the terms above, email me your details so I can start the paperwork.
Full name:
Full shipping address:
I will be ready to declare you the buyer.
Looking forward to doing business!
Regards!

Very interesting. I never knew Ebay had agents that handled this type of transaction.

It's not a scam. All you need to do is pay for the car with a check for a greater amount made out to a third party, and then have the seller refund you the difference via Western Union. Easy.

Chris Hollaway Sat Feb 27, 2010 9:34 am

I used to get the check fraud deal all the time when I was selling my dads motorcycle. I would just tell them my dad worked for the FBI and I would have him look it over to make sure the check was real. Funny, you never hear from them again.

She was doing the same thing last month only it was a John Deere tractor!

Believe it or not, this scam is still going:
http://bgky.craigslist.org/ctd/1613714393.html

Here's the text. Make a note of the email.
This can only tell me that they haven't been caught (fraud over state lines is a federal offense) and that they've probably made enough money to continue. I don't think anyone falls for the eBay connection any more, but like idiots, people will still send money via Western Union.

This classic collectible Volkswagen has been lovingly cared for by my uncle for the last 55 years. He bought the car from a young couple after they had visited Europe and bought the car in Germany in 1954. They kept it for about one year and then my uncle, a young professor at Stanford University, bought the vehicle. He is the second owner and used this car for about 30 years as his main car. He changed the oil every 1,000 miles and garaged the car. The VW is a California car and has no chassis rust. The color of the car is the original "granite blue" but has been repainted.

I suggested first we meet face to face so I could look at the car, but she told me she traveled alot and wanted the safety of ebay. Funny thing was she choose a location for her payment address and the bug 15 min from my house, I drove there and the names on the mailbox was not the same, no bug seen. knocked on the door, no one home, figured something was fishy, did some research and found the old ebay post. Im still leading her on that im intrested, in emails, dont know what I want to do yet, really makes me mad. I told her that they wouldn't send my payment without her phone number, so she sent me one, haven't called it yet. The area code is NV, same as the 'Ebay Agent'...hhmmmm. Spread the word, looks like she (or he) is posting that all over.

That makes some sense of this email she (he) sent me:

Matt :
You have received the information into you email this transaction is made on craiglist under the protection of eBay .I'm sorry I don't use paypal because my account is frozen, due to litigation of divorce with my husband. I would rather close this deal with other person than to know that you'll be very stressed hoping that I am a honest person, untill you receive your mixer. Your peace of mind is a lot more important than this deal!!! If you decide not to go through with it there is no problem. I got quite a few offers left. At this prices I am literally overwhelmed by the number of offers I have received in the last 24 hours so please let me know if you are still interested to buy it...
Let me know what you decide BUT today pls.
