Just trying to get a feel for the effectiveness of sodablasting rather than sandblasting or glassbeading for removing rust on panels.

we had ours professionally media blasted. It found rust we didn't know that was there on the top. I would never restore a car again without media blasting it. The only difference is that I would have them do the inside and underneath too on a rotisserre.

Do you know what media they used? Sand? Soda? Walnut shells? Glass?

from the debris that came out, I'd say mostly plastic and various beads. It may be that they used a proprietary blend. You could contact the gritguy.com and see what they recommend. American Stripping in Sacramento did ours. You need to be very careful or you will tincan the big panels. American Stripping has been doing it for years. They even have a process now that sprays molten zinc and steel on the rusty areas when they are done with media blasting which they build up and grind down instead of having to replace the damaged areas. It is an amazing process that leaves metal where there were holes.

There is an American Stripping close to me. I'm thinking about taking my wheels to them since my new tires should be here Monday. Hopefully they can clean them up good and paint them, need to decide what color if they do them. I'm leaning more towards silver over white.

Soda blasting will not remove rust, I had my MG midget done with soda blasting, works great on paint but not on rust.

I would sandblast the wheels. That is some sturdy metal. I've done it a few times. I cannot comment on the body panels.

Not to be off topic, but American Stripping charges $30 a wheel for sandblasting, and $70 a wheel for powder coating with your color choice. They just sent me an e-mail with these prices.
