| Ok....I'm a little confused. I know I'm new to this, and have a lot of research to do still...ALOT!!! lol...but as I'm looking through things and trying to educate myself I've seen things that I can't figure out so I would appreciate the help. I know so far that Class 5 has to run front and rear stock concept suspension and is restricted to a 4 cylinder VW type engine (according to one site I found) but I've seen some Baja Bugs that are running LS1's and have front a-arm suspension. What Class would those cars be running in and would they be running in the same types of races..Baja 1000 type races. I have read that Class 1 is pretty open but from what I've read it can't have a production style body on it, which is why I'm confused. I'm trying to figure this whole thing out. I love the idea of running a big engine in a Baja Bug, but I want to be able to race in the endurance races. Again any help is appreciated. I know I have a lot to learn so thanks!! |

The LS/a-arm Baja's you're seeing are generally not racecars, they're play cars and prerunners. If they were to race they'd be forced into sportsman buggy because they don't fit in any other class.
Get yourself a rulebook for the organization you are planning on racing so you can get a handle on all the hard facts of each class. Sounds like you're getting the basics of the class rules but you really need the book to be exact.
Understanding the specific rule sets will help you determine what class you'd best like to fit in. Be aware the build and upkeep costs increase very quickly as you move up through the classes. Good Luck! |

| Go to the SNORE website they have a free rule book. Most org's use the SCORE rulebook or a stolen version.......YOu cannot run a v8 with a arm suspension in class 5 period. What your looking at is not a five unlimited its a baja. Just cause someone says its a 5/1600, unlimited 5, class 11 dosn't mean it actually is one. Most improtantly don't build anything until you understand the rules or you'll build a really nice pre runner to use once you figure it out and build your race car. Why 5 unlimited? Its a very low entry class, by the time your done youve spent enough to run class 10 or 12 that have some entries to race against......good luck |

The only car I have seen run class 1 with fenders of any kind was the DeJong monster Manx. I haven't seen anything with a bug type body race class 1.
The other option would be sportsman......... |

Thanks for all the info. Like I said I know I have ALOT of research to do this was just one of many things I'm sure I'll come across.
Another question though....Can someone give me a brief run down of the different organizations i.e: SCORE, SNORE, MDR and whatever others there are and the differences between them, and is one better than the other? Or does it really matter? Thanks agian!! |

Your not missing much Steve. The quality of the build is reflected in the price. Actually, there over priced for what you get. |

| I don't think it's been said yet, but in SNORE Class 5 is restricted to any Air Cooled 4-Cylinder, single cam, push rod, VW Concept engine or any VW Water Cooled 4 Cylinder Engine. It's the same with SCORE I believe. While in BITD any 4-cylinder engine is allowed. |
