| I have a 71 Westy with a stock 1600. It currently has a Pict 30-3 carb and what I have read it should have a Pict 34. What effect will using a Pict 30 carb have? I found a German made 34 on ebay and will be rebuilding it soon. Thanks |

| I'd use the carb designed for your engine size. |

welcome tizzfishin
when you say "stock 1600" do you mean dual port or single port? so much has been done to these poor things over the years. you never know whats been swapped around. the 71 originally came with a dual port 1600. while 68-70 bays came with a single port 1600. see what i'm getting at?
it's quite possible that some one could have just thrown another 'bus' engine in it.
so...which engine do you have?
your distributor may also be a factor in which carb you want to use.
does the dist have any vacuum lines to it or not? |

| Bus is new to me. I'm not sure if its single or dual port. What do I look for? Not sure what distributor I have but I don't see any vacuum lines coming off it. Trying to upload some pictures but I am have trouble. Thanks |

| Its a duel port with the wrong carb, fuel pump (that is for a alt) and a 009 that should be changed for a dvda or a svda dist. |

| Thanks. There is a fairly new alternator not generator installed. So is the fuel pump ok? |

| fuel pump is ok till you go to change it out then the fight is on. The alt ones are angled so thay come out eazyer with the alt in place. also It looks like the top fuel line on the pump is wet. if that is so then change it out like right now. |

| Thanks for the info. In the next few weeks I will be replacing all fuel lines, carb, and probably a new distributor. Should I start fresh and replace the coil too? |

for sure go for a SVDA dist & 34PICT carb. great set up. wouldn't hurt to change the coil. then your old one can be an extra for road trips. |

| Thanks for all the replies. What will happen if I run the 009 distributor with the pict 34 carb? |

It will be a pooch off the line. MIleage will not be as good and it will be "fussy" in daily driving.
Send keifernet a PM and see if he has a matched (carb/distributor) set for you. |

| There's an adapter between your intake manifold and carb which is raising up the carb. When you put the correct 34PICT-3 carb on there the accellerator pump linkage will most likely hit that alternator and will prevent full throttle operation. You'll have to either flip the linkage around or bend the bracket to make it clear. Before you bolt everything up just place the new carb on the manifold and work the throttle full open looking for interference. Then you can fix it. |
