The plan is to meet up at Ron Parker Park in St. Augustine (our regular meeting spot) @ 10am. Then cruise out about 10:30-11am to the Stateside Euro/Eurghetto BBQ, which is at De Leon Springs State Park in Deland FL (20 min west of Daytona). http://www.floridastateparks.org/deleonsprings/default.cfm
Hang out with some other FL VW clubs. The BBQ is 12-sundown, I figure we could camp at the park for the night & then hit up the Ocala National Forest trails in the morning on Sunday. Big Scrub or Lake Delancy, both about an hour cruise away.

Trail ride not for lowered VW's only lifted and/or aggressive tire welcome. Lowered VW's welcome to BBQ though  I think there are one or two speed bumps to worry about.

Post up if interested & are able to make the trip.

even though message was entered sucessfully according the the website I'm not seeing anything :(

try again

Where exactly would you plan spending the night at / camping? De Leoen does not have the campground. I know Ocala Natl. Forest has several different ones, some of which could be reserved ahead of time.

I'm definitelly interested, give that I can make it with stock height westy with regular tires.

58deluxerag Mon Mar 01, 2010 5:06 pm

Thanks for the heads up Tomasz.

We were gonna wing-it on the camping thing, but probably stay somewhere in the forest since De Leon doesn't have camping.

toolman2800 Tue Mar 02, 2010 6:04 am

you'd better check on the legality of that.

58deluxerag Tue Mar 02, 2010 8:26 am

Brad you don't have to join us if you're scurred

Lake Delancy West looks good to me. No reservations required and it's $6 a camp spot. 8)

toolman2800 Tue Mar 02, 2010 10:54 am

sounds good. And I bet they even have showers.

58deluxerag Tue Mar 02, 2010 10:59 am

No showers, just a hole in the ground to crap in and a manual pump for some water.

From the page Tomasz posted:

CAMPGROUND NAME: Delancy West

VISIT DATE: 02/21/2001

UPDATE DATE: 4/22/2009

STATE: Florida

REGION: Southern

RANGER DISTRICT: Lake George

NEAREST CITY/TOWN: Salt Springs

RESERVATIONS: No

DIRECTIONS:
From Salt Springs, FL, take State Rt. 19 north 5.8 miles to
Forest Rt. 75. Turn left onto Rt. 75 and go 3.9 miles to
campground on left.

Note: Forest Rt. 75 is clay and lime rock.

GENERAL COMMENTS:
The elevation is 25 ft.

NOTE: This campground was renovated and upgraded to "developed"
after the authors researched the Ocala National Forest. All
information is provided by the Forest Service - Lake George
Ranger District Office.

The campground is adjacent to Delancy East campground and Lake
Delancy. Lake Delancy is a shallow lake encircled by a prairie
ecosystem. While, in a wet year, the lake's water might reach up
to the parameter of the campground, most of the time tall prairie
grass hides the water. Canoeists will have a good time exploring
the lake's prairie ecosystem.

Longleaf pine is the dominant tree in the campground. The only
handpump for the campground is located in the adjacent Delancy
East campground. OHVs and horses are permitted in the campground.
It is requested that campers with horses use nearby dispersed
area which has no tables. This dispersed location does have
large, clear areas well-suited for portable corrals.

The Florida National Scenic Trail runs by the campground. There
is no formal trail head, but access to it is possible from the
campground.

This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques.
