Late Bay (1977) with removeable levers. This one did not have the heater hooked up when we bought it. Although the cables have been replace, I cannot get them to operate smoothly. I suspect that I have the wrong combination of holes.
Heat lever - there are two holes on the lever - one is at the end and one inner. The outer movers more and the inner moves less. Which does the heat control valve cables go into?
Defrost and Walkthrough lever - there are two holes on the lever - one is at the end and one inner. The outer movers more and the inner moves less. Which does the defroster and walk through go into?
Defrost lever at flap. Which hole does the cable go into and which direction? What about the strap, over or under. I found this photo. Is it correct?

| This is a poorly designed system that overloads the cables from the dash to the defrost valve and has caused most of them to have failed long ago. I run with the cable to the rear diverter valve disconnected at the defrost valves. Adding an extra lever on the defrost tree just to activate the rear diverter valve is the way to go. |

| Thank you but I have not a clue yet which is proper to use of the two holes in each lever that VW provided. |

That is a photo from the gallery.
I took all the cables off my bus at both ends until I know how they go because they barely move the the way they were. The 1971 deluxe I had from '76 to '84 moved freely however it had one pull for each side vs two cables on the same lever. I have determined the defrost and walk cables thru are free to move and the rear ones are new. It has to behow I had them connected.
A photo of the cables hooked up to the lever and to the defrost the correct way would help very much. |

It took forever but I found this photo after reading about 50 threads. It looks like the outer holes are used. Let me know if this is not so.
