Not sure about a bus shifter, but I'm partial to Hurst-style shifters. I'm using an original Hurst shifter in my ghia. The bent shaft models work best for ghias.

I think if you use a pre 67 type 2 shifter, the ball end that engages the shift rod is the same diameter.

The bus style shifter has a spring loaded pin that locates the ball into the socket on the shift rod. This keeps it from spinning around. If your shift rod socket has the slot in it it would work. Would be a little tall but that can be fixed.
