  View original topic: Trashed case?

I am afraid my case may be trashed. This is how much the dowel pin for my thrust bearing moves.
The camera is in the same position in these two pictures:

Two from a second angle:

I realize the pin is worn, attributing to some of the play, but there is a similar amount of play with a different pin installed.

Is this possible to repair/overcome, or is my case toast?

they make a stepped pin, you open the hole and drop it in, voila fixed. esp if you don't need an align bore, if you send the case out to be decked have em take care of that as well. I would not reccomend running that case as is.

How do the rest of your bearing saddles look? You could go with a stepped pin or over sized or you could just ignore it.If you have the correct bearing crush that pin is just a point to assure correct bearing placement

The engine is out because I do need it thrust cut and align bored. Does that change my options at all?

The rest of my bearing pins were tight fits, this was the only nasty one.

I would have your machine shop fix it the way they want

dont run it as is, and dont let a butcher drill your bearing along with drilling the case. the only right way to fix it is with a stepped pin.

Just send your engine to someone familiar with T4 motors and tell them to do what is needed. Everything should come back honky dory.

I used to cut the end of the next fractional drill size and use that. HOWEVER that case needs an alignbore. The bearing has been walking in the saddle. RIMCO time.

Bringing me to my next question. Lake Charles is in Southwest LA, on I-10 near the TX border. Does anyone know of a T4 machine shop in the area? I am guessing that I will have to go to Houston, or just ship my case somewhere.

a little bird told me about 6 months ago that some very well known and respected shops ship their T4 alignbores all the way from the East Coast to RIMCO in Santa Ana. T1 case work is easy to find but not so for T4. Call RIMCO and ask for Todd. My guess is that they will have you pull the barrel studs and ship without them.
