View original topic: 1600SP in a bus?

I recently aquired a complete 1600 motor originally from a bug. The case # is B6093854, which I believe says it should be a 1600-SP from 1970, rated at 47HP. It has the original 30 Pict-2 on it, and apears to be unmolested.

My question: could this motor be used in an early Bay or is there some reason the SP series only found their way into Bugs?

I don't have plans for it right now - anyone nearby in need? I've only got a couple hundred worth of traded items invested in it.

1600SP was stock bus engine from '68-'70.

The matching Bus engine is a B5 it to is a singe port the same as your B6. The B5 was used 1968 to 1970. The difference is that the B5 has the mounting holes and bosses for the mustach bar. The B6 will need the adapter plate to be installed in a Bus because the bosses are not there to drill and tap.

I have about (5) B6 engines laying around hoping to find a B5 so I can say my 1970 has the original type engine. Currently it has a universal type 3 case with dual port heads.

1600sp is the way to go. Cheap, reliable, and great on the road

... provides the needed torque in a bus, a perfect application.

As long as the engine case has the 3 bosses for the rear mustache bar it should be fine. Others have used the oil pump modification kit to accomodate the Beetle case, IMO not a good idea.
