Im looking for 4 steering coupler bolts for my 56. I went out to Wolfsburg West last week and they don't carry them. I know I could put in similar bolts from the hardware store but by doing so am I risking those bolts backing out?

Thanks

you will have to remind me,where they castle nuts with wire connecting them all?

if so just use lock nuts on them and you should be fine.

they were M8X31 bolts with special tall castle nuts with cotter pins, for safety I would use nylon lock nuts if you cant find the real thing, they are oddball nuts but the bolts are normal M8X1.25 with a hole drilled for the cotter pin

Unless your doing a concourse restoration I'm not too sure why your worried about the original bolts and nuts. If your worried about them backing out put some of the "red" loctite on them and you'll have to use a cutting torch to get em off.

Thanks for the reply's. They were the castle nuts with the pins in them. I looked all over and couldn't find them. I ended up stopping at the hardware store and picking up some similar sized bolts with nylon locking nuts like billmetric suggested. These should do the trick.

You need to make sure have the proper grade of bolts! I'm not sure if they are grade 8 or 10? You definitely don't want these bolts to shear off!!!

The ones I picked up are Grade 8.
