Since I am reparing my engine compartment at the moment I have started to wonder what kind of function the two cutouts do have at the bottom of the half-moon-shaped end of the vertical firewall. I am talking about the shape that holds the engine rubber seal above the gearbox/engine.
There is one smaller cutout in close to the middle of the half-moon-shaped engine seal and another bigger opening just beneath where the serial number is.
What are those cut outs used for?

| middle is probably for throttle and choke cable clearance.Right one might clear the heater unit ?! |
