Only wounds I've had so far is a blister on my palm that was quite a bit larger than a quarter and a piece of steel embedded in my cornea. Optometrist said I'll have a microscopic scar on my eyeball for life. Pretty cool.
Popping this badboy was the coolest thing I've ever done in my life. |

Cut some brake line ... the cutters I was using were dull and it cut it on an angle. Was working on the inside of my car later on that night (was replacing the battery), was tightening the cable, and my hand slipped, got stabbed by the brake line down my forearm under the skin and got shocked by the battery.
The worst part was removing the 2-3" of brake line from under my skin once it was in there.
No stitches, just wrapped it in a makeshift bandaid of paper towels and duct tape. |

| Was working on a customer VW back in the 1970s, flywheel wouldn't come off, engine on the ground. I was using big screwdrivers working my way around to pry, wouldn't come off. Of course, it finally did come off, when my hand was underneath, and flywheel dropped a few inches onto my finger, and a tooth cut my finder, made a deep "Y" shaped cut, bled a lot. I went into the shop rest room, washed it off, put a band-aid around the finger, and continued working. I have a little scar on the finger. |

A nurse in a Dr. office noticed all the scars on my hands and arms, and asked about it.
I told it was from working on VW's for almost 50 years.
It seems that Dr. and nurses here in Iowa are supposed to watch for excessive scars.
Possible sign of self abuse.
Could it be that VW's are a sort of self abuse?? |

| got my pinkie finger caught in the fan belt while i was trying to time the engine. broke the top joint in 2 places, tore the meat off down to the bone, lost the finger nail. i would have lost the tip of my finger if i had tightened the belt down before i timed it like i wanted to do. |

| In the early '80s I had a '73 Super Beetle. I was working under it when one of the super cheapo K-mart jacks stands I was using buckled. What saved me were the Trans am wheels and over sized tires that were still on the car. The bug came down on the tires and the motor touched my nose. Only mark was a big grease stain on my shnoz. :D I only use 3 ton stands any more. |

That is pretty neat trick. Even so, I do not think I will try it, even with a slack fan belt like in the video.
I have actually started a type I engine with a ratchet on the generator nut. Sucks to have a weak battery....
My brother used to have a Baja with a Type III engine that had an A/C pulley on it, we would use a rope and pull start it at times. |
