Im 17 and this is going to be my DD..

well the story i got from the PO is that it was a 69 or 70 that was rolled.. after he rolled he he cut the cage out, put the 58 oval window body on and rewelded the cage in. I picked it up for $400 and it has rack and pinion steering, centerline fronts, two nice buckets with 5 point harnesses and a one piece fiberglass front end. My plans with this are to rebuild my motor, get the interior done(i.e. fix cage and welds, new mounts for seats, e brake, hurst shifter and shift lock, quick disconnect, etc) get the suspension all done( rebuild fornt beam for now, maybe move to wider one later), clean up rear arms, new shocks, paint, rewire, and misc stuff.

we also just picked up a 68 off of hear for $600. ill make a build thead for it too..(its gunna get cage and all the little goodies too)..

here are pics of the front..

I will get more as i progress with it.. [/img]

here are a few more pics from last week.. if you look closly you can see the sleeves the PO used to hold the cage together..

do you guys think those rear arms are stock boxed ones? Please let me know what you think

constuctive critism is always good!!

those are stock boxed arms.... great start to a car!

just pulled the fornt beam.. and loosened the pinch bolts and the trailing arms slowly fell down.. so it was the pinch bolts that kept it from moving..

im still gunna rebuild the beam tho..
when i go to pull the leaf springs out do i need to mark what side is which and how far it is sticking out?

thanks

tanner_122 Fri Mar 05, 2010 9:44 pm

no it doesnt matter

58ovalbaja Fri Mar 05, 2010 10:04 pm

alright.. well any other tips before i take it apart tomorrow?

Whats the best way to clean the inside of the beam?
and if i want to add adjusters how do i? would i need to get new leaf springs?

there are no stops on the front will i need to run straps?
and what travel numbers will i reach with this suspension?prolly gunna run 12 or 14 (i think) dual rear shocks and some 10 or 12s up fornt..(they arent gunna be coilover jsut yet)

tanner_122 Fri Mar 05, 2010 10:34 pm

nope just make sure u look closely when u take it appart
no u wouldnt need new springs
how long are ur shock towers?

58ovalbaja Fri Mar 05, 2010 10:46 pm

Somehow this all sounds very familiar... but from a very long time ago :?

tanner_122 Fri Mar 05, 2010 11:23 pm

okay im not sure about the adjusters :?:
but my towers are 18" with stock arms with a lower shock mount and i get about 10 1/2 - 11'' of travel mabey that will answer ur travel question?
i have stops on my beam
id seach it on here

58ovalbaja Sat Mar 06, 2010 2:10 pm

my shock towers are 18".

anyways,, took the beam apart and found out the springs were not all there..( i think) both the bottom and top beam had four springs and two of the four had pieces welded on every couple inches..

also the bushings are stuck in the beam and i cant get them out.. any ideas? i will have pics in a little
