took some pics of the bushings in the beam and the motor out of the 68..

as you can see the bushings are in the beam! any ideas or tips on getting them out would be helpful.. oh and they are like plastic

the PO of the 68 told us it was seize but once we pulled it it started to turn with a breaker bar and socket.. it now turns easily.. the motor was spitting that yellor crap out.. the flywheel is done and we think the starter is froze..

so i was cleaning up the beam yesterday so we can order the new parts.. and the grinder jumped out of my hands and cut my finger wide open.. lol but its cleaned up.. still need to remove the bushings somehow.. and i think im going to a 6 over beam with 2" longer arms and coilovers.. so most likely this beam will go on the 68..

58ovalbaja Mon Mar 15, 2010 8:16 pm

also.. i searched the vin numbers and found out what i thought was a 68 is really a 66.. and my pan is a 69 and the body is most likely a 56.. is there a stamped number on the body anywhere besides the front apron??

58ovalbaja Mon Mar 15, 2010 8:46 pm

quick question..

I want to go with a 6 over beam without towers,, if i do this, can i just build some off my cage? do i have to have a special beam to run thru rods? do i have to run a special thru rod beam bushing?

and...

when i either make or buy 2" longer trailing arms... do i have to have a special connection for thru rods? like a circular endingone(like how the spring ones are square)

any input would be helpful!!

If it is a 56 body, they should be a VIN number stamped into the area near the original brake fluid reservoir.
Count the teeth on that flywheel. Looks like it is a 6V flywheel and starter may have been used with 12V.
6V flywheel will have 109 teeth. 12V will have 130 teeth.

Update!! finally got all the parts for the beam(new leaf springs and bushings)

got the beam all nice and painted, drums painted, traling arms painted (one and a half days worth of just prep work for those  ) put the beam all back together. got all the way done except for installing one drum and realized that i only put 5 springs in each tube. so i will be trying to add the other ones tomorrow. also we broke the end part of one of the bushings putting it in but no biggie.

gunna be prepping the front part of the cage for paint tomorrow and then hopefully get the front part of the body done too!! but prepping takes a lot of time and things never go the right way so we will see..

pics up tomorrow when there is daylight

its looking good. yes i have diamond plate door panels. i used 1 4x8 foot and 1 2x4 foot sheet for both doors, both sides of rear seat, and behind the rear seat (speaker panel)

and i cut it all myself and had some scrap.

been prepping my new door panels (stop signs and othertypes of signs) lol also set my steering up and pulled the rear stubs and drums off to grease everything so i can put it back together and get my tranny mounted so i can get my new 2180 in... alll i have left to do before it runs is electrical(already have most of it) and run fuel line, oil cooler, and get a battery..
