View original topic: Drop 2.5" wheels all similar size, help!

Hi all!

I want to drop my 62 vert so it's level. I'm thinking about doing disc brakes so it seems to me a drop spindle would be a good solution here with maybe a narrowed beam? On my old 70 bug i had 145's in the front with 205's in the back (it was what was available from a donor car) and I wasn't a big fan of having such skinny wheels in the front. I'd like to have the front a little closer in look (if not the same) to the back.

1.) What size tires should I run on BRM replicas?
2.) I'm putting a 2180cc motor in her, so with the wheels what would be a good tranny setup?

I was looking into the P185/60R-15. What do you think about that for front and what do you think about that for rear?

Thanks for all your help! I love this forum!

What size are the BRM replicas -- 5.0" ? If so, 5" is typically the minimum req'd width for 185/60 so keep in mind the sidewall will be look big and bulgy. Some people like that, some don't. IMO, 185/60 is too small for the back. They are about 1 1/2" smaller diameter than stock so your engine RPMs will be higher. But going any larger on the front could be a problem with dropped spindles. A narrowed beam might solve that, not sure.

I have not settled on exactly what I am going with, but I am settling on 175/65 and 205/65 on 5.5" rims with dropped spindles, stock beam and deep offset rims (ET40).

I was thinking about going EMPI BRM's:

5 inch X 15 inch, 5 x 205 VW bolt pattern, 14mm Offset

I've been digging into Airkewld's suspension stuff. Pretty slick! So I'm leaning toward their 0 offset BAD disc brakes on all 4 with their ultimate beam that is narrowed 2". I'm starting to think this is the look that I want and maybe some 185/60 r15 on all fours. The side wall will buldge a bit, but I kinda like that :-) It'll be 1.7" shorter tire height, but I think I'd be ok with that. I was thinking about regearing my tranny anyway so I could always make the adjustment there for high revs.
