Back to VW's...
Are the Solex brosol carbs ok to use? I know they are not the origonal german solexes, but they are still solexes.
Only IF they are the 32 PDSITs, or the 32-34 PDSITs. I say that, because either of those are for a t-3. Granted it might be a Brazilian t-3. |

I did some work with the search button, but i wanted to be sure about this.
I need to do an interior BEFORE i install windows correct? Otherwise ill have to take the windows back out to put the headliner ect. in right? |

| Should wire wheel and paint any rust you might find with the windows out. You can order VW colors in spray cans from www.towerpaint.com |

Ok cool thank you. I dont think there is very much rust. Only surface rust on the parts where it lost the paint getting it home...
Overall i think its a really solid and un rusted car. |

| You should paint the whole car, when you have the windows out. I don't care if it's a MAACO paint job, if that is what fits your Budget. Paint it now and your restoration/car is Done in Your color! PM me if you want any paint advice. 8) |

I never ended up getting those carbs.
Can we review what carbs will work with my 68 dualport engine?
So far i know that 32 PDSITs, or the 32-34 PDSITs will work.
But how do i tell if they came off a T3?
And are there any other inexpensive carb options out there?
Thanks for the help guys! |

If you can find used Solex 32 PDSIT set they will be stamped #2 & #3 for the dual carburetor setup. You need the linkage/air cleaner etc, but I think you have the intake manifolds? They would end up looking similar to this '67 engine:
This blue engine is out of a '72 that was converted to Solex's, but is missing the stock black air cleaner. It still has the automatic transmission flex plate on it. If you buy Weber ICT carburetors you will have to use small dual air cleaners similar to these.
You are sure you don't want to just build up a fuel injected engine as it was original?

Well i did eventually get some carbs, they arrived today.
I got some Solex Brosol 32/34 PDSI-3 carbs. Attached to some dual port manifolds, all for 135 to my doorstep, i think that was pretty decent.
Some pics...
I will go though and clean them up really good.
If they are lucky, they may even get a rebuild kit!
I do need to get a Bently manual though. Is that the correct one? Should i get it from amazon, or do you think i can get it cheaper at the Pamona swapmeet in june? |

Pulled the manifolds off the carbs.
I Plan on bead blasting them tomorrow at work.
I was going to flat sand the mating surfaces once i was done blasting to get them nice and flat, my baja manifold is pretty warped and has caused me some headaches.
Manifolds:
I know im missing one screw on the accelerator pump cover, but i also seem to missing this lil set screw looking thing.
It has an allan head and threads in to the main body of the carb. The left carb has it, but the one one the right dosent seem to. Looking in the hole it seems to just dead end, not go anywhere or anything.
Does anyone know anything about this particular hole in the carb?
Thanks guys!

Here we have the sandblasted intakes...
And the same intakes after being tumbled for a few hours...
This is a poor quality camera phone picture, they are really really smooth now, and all one color. They look nice. Flat sanding on the gasket surfaces will be done on friday, along with some balljoint replacement on my bug.

You've owned that square for 2.5 years and still haven't bought a Bentley. I also bought an Autobook used from www.books4cars.com because it has a real good Chapter on Solex carburetors that the Bentley doesn't have! Buy both Manuals that cover carburetors & fuel injection. John at www.aircooled.net & Mark Harney are the advice/parts/service/carburetor experts here, not us! You will more than likely need some new/different sized jets to get them running good on your engine.
Manifolds look Good! 8)

Thanks for the reply!
I am planning on ordering the books (or at least the Bentley one) this weekend.
I will definatly be contacting them about jetting once i get a little further along, thanks for the link!
Did a little more work on the manifolds today.
Its a little hard to tell even when i look at them, and its even worse in the picture, but i did polish the internal portion of one manifold tonight. (bottom one in picture) Like i said, it doesn't look much better, but it sure feels a good amount smoother!

And a little more work on them today.
Left one i briefly polished with a scotchbrite wheel. Right one is next in line.
And here they both are after polishing and flat sanding. They look much better than they did before!
Next is the carbs! no im not going to polish them, just clean them up and get them on the engine finally! |
