Hello,
I am interested in more detailes in the pre-thermostat assembly , the "summer/winter" lever on the fan shroud, on (very) early cars.
It's this device, as it appears in this picture, from the "1946 beetle" thread.

First of all I would like a picture of the area behind the fan shroud, pic of the actual device (not just the lever as it apears in the picture above ) .
Also, does this mean that KDF-cars and kubelwagens had this installed ? |

That was uncalled for...
The only piece of text I have found in this thread is the following:

Please educate me. Where is the summer/winter lever? What is the function of the device?
Here is a Summer/Winter lever. It covers half of the fan intake in Winter setting to let the engine warm up faster. There is not one on the
1946 car in the pics.

NO conclusive information about the time frame in there, thank you.
I ask this because I have seen a lot of pictures of various splits, bothe pre 45, and after, with what it appeared to be the original tinware and they did not have the lever on. |

The arm passes thruough the fan shroud. On the "front" is a half of a flat
circle of steel. In the Winter setting, it covers half of the intake hole on
the front side of the fan shroud.

Hello
You missed this:

And what keeps it from banging back and forth when driving ? Friction or a spring-loaded "lock" thing ?
Thanks :)
usariemen -> thanks. Indeed I have missed that. |

Here's my '47 engine. You can just see the piece that blocks the fan intake in the pic
Anyone out there making a stencil of the "Winter" & Summer" fonts so I can refinish my shroud? |

Hello, RareAir, and thanks for the pictures. :D
May I dare to ask for another picture with the back of the fan shroud, focusing on the blocking piece ? |

Regarding the stencil, ...
could be this one, printed inclined (italic? ) ?
