Well hello everyone :)
I just wanted to tell you all that my roomate and I are moving from the high desert of california all the way to Richmond Virginia. I'm very excited as you all can imagine.
I'll be driving my 72 Super, Dauntless, and my roomie will drive his Kia (don't mock him... he doesn't know any better haha)
We'll be staying in Denver the first night at an old friends house then we'll be camping on the roadside the rest of the way. well that's the plan anyways haha  I'll let you all know what the real plan is before we take off on the 15th. |

| Are you traveling I-70 to Denver. If so we just had a huge rockslide on the 70 in the Glenwood Springs canyon. Rocks the size of semi's that tore up the road real bad. Rumor is that its going to take weeks to re-open. good luck and have fun on your trip. |

I would to much snow not take I 70 this time of year
I-10 would be a better choice and if you are sleeping on the side of the road. |

I thought something was wrong with you until I read the 2nd sentence.
Dont't forget the cold in the winter and the windstorms that can knock out the entire west side of town by ripping out 10 miles of powerlines down Inyokern Rd. (lived in The Acres back in '96). About the only good I found was Indian Wells Brewing Company and drag racing at Inyokern airport, which has since ceased to occur. |

Welcome to the East!!
A different world it is from the West, in many ways good different, in other ways not so good.
Virginia is a BEAUTIFUL place with lots to offer, yes, it's got its arm pit areas, as every State does, but overall you should be happy.
You will have winter, you will have summer heat and you will have humidity to deal with.
Best of luck on your trip, travel safe!

If you need some help with your VW, check out Salem Imports in Salem, VA.
I believe Salem is next door to Richmond and Mark Dearing, the owner, is one of the most knowledgeable VW people I know. Good people...
Best of luck in your travels. It sounds like a fun trip..... |

I too use to live in ridgecrest, do not miss it except for the awesome off roading in the desert with my baja bug. Have not lived there since 1993. |

Richmond is near Roanoke? I guess that depends on what you definition of "near" is. ;-)
Hey roy63, is Grand Pa Eddies the little place that's just a trailer in a parking lot? I told a budy of mine who lives in Richmond about a bbq place I read an article on and he loved it. |

Maybe poorly stated. What I meant was, Salem is "next door to" Roanoke. Richmond is not.
Salem Imports is excellent though. |
