| turned my bug over last night, a few minuets after running it, then I heard a small pop. And FIRE out my passenger side what happened? It went out by its self after a few mins, and it still ran not quite as well as it did earlier, tho this car has had a history of motor problems like backfires sounds like gunshots "very loud" 2 and 3/4 foot flames out tailpipes, and gas in the oil. Need to check and see if thats still the case, after replacing the fuel pump. But could it be anything else, like something to be worried about? Also i need to pick it up today from a friends house lives about 3-4 miles from me. ok thanks for your help. |

| Although it was difficult reading your post without any punctuation or capitals to indicate the end of one sentence and the start of another, I do appreciate the spaces between words. Once you begin to omit those spaces, I'm afraid you may find written communication just won't work for you at all. However, the one word that stood out in your post was "FIRE". Not good. You should seriously investigate that. Hope this helps. |

| Dude, you may be ahead of the game. There are guys that spend a lot of time and money to get 2 3/4' flames shooting out the tail pipes. I know girls dig it. |

Sorry for your ills but funny is funny.
If you have fire in your exhaust then you have fuel issues. If you replaced the pump did you verify the pressure? Are you 150% sure it is the correct pump? You could be flooding fuel which is building up in your exhaust and catching fire. You could have a stuck or burnt valve as well. Hard to tell when your post is so chaotic. |

Until you get the problem definitely solved, it would be a good idea to keep a fire extinguisher handy.
Could the gasoline in the oil be an indication that the diaphram on your fuel pump is porus, allowing gasoline into the crankcase? Or that you didn't install the new fuel pump correctly?

Here is some solid advice on your post discussing this in February.
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4...highlight=
IF....you changed your oil since that post, and now have more fuel mixed in, then it is coming in from a defective pump diaphragm or draining into your cylinders from a leaking carburetor.
Then again, if someone directly topped the oil off with gas then.......NAH...we won't go there. |

I found that 2 quarts of 20W-50 and then topping off with 87 octane thins it down to about 10W-30 and saves you about $2. |

Could it be timing or a vavle issue? Did you mess with the valve gaps lately? Is the compression good in all the cylinders? Just the first thoughts that come to my mind.

Geez guy, you really need to focus more in school.
Let me give this a try...

You started your car last night and heard a pop. [that was easy]
baja maxx wrote: And FIRE out my passenger side what happened?
Fire out your passenger side what?
baja maxx wrote: It went out by its self after a few mins,
You mean you sat there while your car burned for two minutes? What were you thinking? Didn't you have a fire extinguisher, blanket, or at least a full bladder?
baja maxx wrote: and it still ran not quite as well as it did earlier,
Wait, back the truck up, you mean the car was still running? I hope you at least you weren't still inside. One key thing to learn here, is the key. Turn it off. Many fires are electrical and just turning the key off can stop it.
Oh, and as for the motor not running "quite as well as it did before" thats pretty common with most motors that are on fire. Nothing to worry about.
baja maxx wrote: tho this car has had a history of motor problems like backfires sounds like gunshots "very loud" 2 and 3/4 foot flames out tailpipes, and gas in the oil.
It's starting to sound like the fire was the best thing for that poor motor. Kinda like a Viking Funeral.
baja maxx wrote: Need to check and see if thats still the case, after replacing the fuel pump.
Probably one of your better ideas
baja maxx wrote: But could it be anything else, like something to be worried about?
What like spontaneous combustion? Maybe your motor is just craving deaths sweet embrace. It's fed up with the abuse and torture it has been exposed to thus far. Or maybe it could be timing, valves, or your carb might need adjusting or rebuilding.

What, is the local fire department concerned about the smoldering? Maybe you should consider selling it and buying a bike.

Sorry for fanning the flames of this guy's misfortune and serious problems (both gramatical & mechanical) but I have to say that this is some funny dialect.
I would say that you have a fuel pump diaphram problem & or a timing issue. Then again, you might have a problem with the "After Burner".
