I recommend using the foil backed bubble wrap type insulation from the hardware store.
It is somewhere around 99% heat reflective. Super easy to install, just cut with scissors and you don't have to glue it down. No water retention either.
Here it is on ceiling of my bus before in put the panels in.
I think it made a huge difference in the warmth of our camper.
Good choice on the VG!
I just used a couple of small tape loops to hold it up there while I installed the panels. Really no reason to use glue, it doesn't make it work any better.
I used 2 or 3 layers behind all the panels in the bus except the ceiling area behind the cab which still has the original westfalia fiberglass.
Doing the rear hatch will keep your feet warmer if you sleep in your bus.
My wife really loves this! |

Thanks zundapp I think I'll do the same as I didn't want to add any adhesive in case it has to be removed at another time. The paneling should hold it in place nicely. But regarding the rear hatch there doesn't seem to be enough space between panel & metal unless the insulation is extremely thin or am I getting the info incorrect? Also where is the cheapest insulation (hardware store type) with the most density ie: smaller bubbles closer together?

Any updates on this bus?
More importantly, did I miss the Portland pizza party? |

All metal work is done and we have started paint. It is coming along great and I love working on it with Adam on the weekends. He is doing a great job.
Biggest change is that my family has decided to change the colors from the stock VG. We did indeed go with SG/PG. Purists will have get over it.
We also added another Hehr jalousie window, so my daughter, and any other passenger can look out the window in the back seat.
Pizza party has been delayed. I had to go to Florida for family. I'll update a new date when I get a chance to figure it out.
The Samba won't let me upload any of my photos. I'll either have to resize them or The Samba is having a problem. |

brian will love your comments on the color..........he actually has a mind of his own so i doubt he cares if a couple dudes call it ruined
i like pg/sg,and im an elitist piece of crap, but when your customer wants thier bus built to thier liking, they are paying and its thier choice
funny thing is im painting another 67 camper pg/sg right after my 56 fake as shit ss camper is out of the booth
its a vw color and i have to admit a cool color combo,i can see why a guy might want that even if it wasnt correct
the same folks who bitch about incorrect colors will also bitch that a bus that started out as a panel so the windows cut in the sides should be filled................i think being a camper instead of a panel is a very good thing, very much a more drivable car..........in fact brian is even contemplating (gasp) cutting yet another window in it,i hope he does |

Looks great guys.
Since it's now a custom, I would do the bumpers and emblem in Sand Green
and 2 tone the rims. I don't think the Silverwhite would look right. Also, it might look better if you leave the overiders off.
Go ahead, pour some salt in their wounds.
I'm available to help with re-assembly if you want it. |

Isn't he the guy who started this thread to ask other people to tell him what color to paint his bus, and then got pissed when people told him not to? |
