So after wanting to run a speaker behind the dash of my oval like they came originally I found that I needed to have the special motorola bracket that held the speaker..I borrowed one from a friend to see if I could make something, come up with something similar and found it to be a pain in the butt..heck it took me like an hour and a half to even figure out how to mount the thing.....I came up with very limited solutions

A. Buy an original one and as you may know they are super super hard to find or very very expensive.

B. Get some made (how do you do that?) Well I found the answer and went thru all the drama and expense and now I'm having a bunch of them made..mainly for my cars and my friends cars...they are running me about 40 bucks each and they are made out of aluminum...I had them not add extra holes or the little mounting tabs as I'm not sure if I'm going to run a 6x9 or a round 6 and figured I could just drill an extra hole and use a nut/bolt combo myself....figured I'd share..what do you guys think?

Original vs my test sample I just got today

Here are the OG mounting studs..I think old speakers were odd sizes anyone have the dimensions of an OG oval speaker?

Pretty fresh I think....super stoked to get my radio back from the shop and put it in with a speaker and finally have some OG tunes in my cars!

Hey Yustrn those look great. Can I be your friend and buy one from you?

Did a little R & D today on these..went to Kragen and bought a new cone style 6x9 to see how it fit.

On the original one it fits fine, but there is a little over lap as you can see (once gain I know that old speakers were different sizes..I'm going to look at an OG speaker next week and I can measure it)

Here are some shots of the new speaker on the OG grill and then you can see that on my new reproduction one you'll have plenty of meat to be able to center it and drill your own holes to mounting it.

and then the same speaker laid over my new reproduction grill

There are 5x7 speakers available. You could give one of those a try.

Sweet..looks like Walmart sells them, I'll put on some dirty clothes and head over there tomorrow.

Thanks!

If you're going to Walmart make sure you wear some pink stilettoes so I can see you on one of those "People in Walmart" emails that I keep getting.

We have a whole suburb of those people in Sydney... its called Mt Druitt...BEWARE!

Peopleofwalmart.com is an awesome website..I actually had to go there the other day with my lady to get something and I actually saw people I wanted to take a picture of and submit.

Oh..picked these up this morning so for those of you that ordered one they are shipping today!

Hey Yustrn I ordered one of these speaker holders from you. Can you shed some light on how it attaches to the back side of the dash?

Yeah no worries took me about an hour one day to figure it out. You have to use two little screw that actually attach to where the speaker block off plate would have gone. If you look on each side of the hole you will see the two little holes (one on each side) then you line that up to the middle of the speaker grill and you'll see that two of the speaker grill holes mount up.

I'm going this week to my buddies house that has his OG set up in his car and I'll snag a bunch of detailed pics if this makes no sense..Pm me

Here is a pic of the speaker block off to help you see where the two little screw holes would be on either side..most people don't even realize they are there.

Obvioulsly this one was mounted a little crooked, but you can see how it was in when someone repainted the car and left it in there..
