| I don't know what happened, i was working on average 4 hrs a day on the baja, making good progress, then in the last couple weeks. whamo!! loss of motivation. i feel like it's hard to get out to the shop to start working on it. once i get out there and get going it's not bad, but it's getting out there! at this rate it will never get done. i don't know if it's all the time i've been spending on the F*&^ing body that was full of rusty holes and dents. (still pissed about that) or worrying too much about getting it painted and stuff. i know that once it is painted it will mostly be downhill, but damn man, just can't get my ass moving to get it there. so long story short... i need someone to come over here and kick my ass so i can get in gear and get this thing moving. thanks for listening to my bitch and moan. |

I've been there at least 10 times.
Don't go in the garage for at least a week, don't look at your car or even think about it. By next weekend, you'll be ready to hit it hard again. It's a hobby and your supposed to enjoy the process as much as the end result. If your not having fun, give it a little break. |

Let's see... My motivations include...
That time of month in a house full of girls.
My six year old begging to "help me".
The thought of screaming down dusty roads in the dew laden morning air heading to some "point on the map" that really means nothing to me other than it has become my primary focus for the day.
Soaking on a rock fishing with my daughters knowing that every kids that drives by in their minivan is wishing they were mine.
Sitting under a starlit sky after reaching said point, cracking a cold one, and watching the smoke from the campfire trickle into the night.
Okay, back to work..... |

Sure, I'd love to make the trip out to Eugene, Oregon! A little far though, so just get to work! LOL. (I'm fighting the same issue as well) |

I know how you feel.
Work on your car in small steps, but dont let it sit so long that things start to deteriorate.
If its not running and you get it to the point where it is at least starting, that is great motivation in itself.
Fish on.......... |

| Hey man it is winter, you have made great progress thus far! If you resist the temptation to be frustrated it will come back to you all on its own. Everybody with a long term project has been where you are now. |

Watch some screamin' VW videos on Youtube. When I lost motivation on my old '67 Scout project I would watch the opening scenes of Deliverence, where Burt Reynolds was tearing down some Georgia clay roads in a similar Scout 800B. The gear whine always made me want to get back to work on mine.
I also tell myself that each hour I spend working on my Baja now is one more hour I can be enjoying it when the weather gets nice here in a few weeks. |

break up the build up into smaller, tiny, can be done in a day projects. brakes, wiring engine, wiring lights, do a little body work, etc..... if you get tired of doing one thing for along time then move to another step but dont bounce to a bunch of different one or you get overwhelmed.
find a punk kid or fellow dubber in the neighborhood that wants to learn how to work on cars. you teaching him or even her will help you get motivated.
i found that wear a MP3 or IPOD will get you in the zone.
lastly, read my signature, unless you are building a showcar then throw some mud on it and go. |

| Hey Chubby, your avitar holds the clue to happiness. It's not a Ford, you don't have to "Flip Over Read Directions". Get her back on the wheels and get your wheels back in motion. I know how it feels. I don't have a good place to work on mine, so I'm at the mercy of the weather. I'm sick of all of the snow and RAIN! (1.5 inches already today) |

| thanks guys. it's not that i want a show quailty paint job, just don't want a million dents that i didn't put in it and gaping rust holes. in all reallity i'm really close to finishing the body. as soon as i figure out my HF sandblaster(got more blast media a couple days ago) and get the rest of the car blasted, then repair the drivers rear quarter i'll be movin along. |

I had a lot of trouble with moisture in the sand when I lived in a humid environment. Judging by your weather out there, you might be in the same boat. May you could bring your sand inside for a night or something.
Just a thought. |

Tip for cheap blast media.
Go to your local Menards/Home Depot/Lowes. Buy fine silica plaster sand. $4.99 for 40 lbs. If using it in free air, use a respirator or good dust mask.
That is all I use in my HF media blast cabinet. |

Only if you breath it. That is why I said to use a respirator, or Good dust mask.
Mine is in a cabinet, with air handling on it. |

hey!! got off my fat ass and made it out to my shop. i did a couple mods to the hf blaster i got, added more media( i think that's a big part of why it wasn't working well), and started blasting my rear luggage area. HOLY SHIT! this thing is awesome now that i got it dialed in right. man i did the luggage area, around the back windows, the rear quarter sections and fenderwells(inside), and around the rear quarter windows(inside) in maybe 1/2 hour at most. that's including suiting up and down. man what a difference this is now. i think that was part of my sluggeshness, the fact i spend the moola that i don't have on a sandblaster and couldn't seem to get it to run right. but now, man this thing is awesome. Needed to take a little break though to let my compressor breath. if the rest of the car goes this quick i should be able to get all of my sandblasting done and the quarterpanel repair done by Tues or Wed of next week, then maybe shoot some primer sealer on the whole car, and then move on to my doors and fiberglass. just got to keep this good momentum going.
on a different note, got both my nitro rc cars running well today. maybe need to replace a clutch on one of them, but man they scream. |

| It seems like I question my resolve on finishing this project at least once a week. As long as I don't start adding up my recipts in my baja shoe box, I'm good. |
