Looking to put new wheels and tires on my 68, I think I'm gonna convert it to wide 5 and put brm's on in... Since I have the wide axles will a 5.5" wheel fit under it? I also want to put a 205/65 under it, so I'm not sure if it will fit..

Here is my deal, if I have to change to a narrow axle to get anything other than a nearly stock wheel tire combo under it, I'd rather spring for a 6.5" wheel..

Anybody know the wheel tire width limit on a 68 without rubbing? I plan to be lowered no more than and inch in the rear maybe not that much..

since i couldn't get any feedback, i decided to put 145/65's on the front and 165/80 on the rear, because i knew they would fit without pulling the tranny and installing short axles....i also decided to spend the cash i had for wheels, on stuff like new brakes all around, lights, rubbers, shit like that to make a sound driver....... i'll do a little as i go

i got the rear tires local, installed them myself, that was a chore getting the old tires off with a screw driver, couple pry bars, and a ball peen..

waiting on the fronts to arrive from tirerack.com smoken deal on those.
will install them myself too!

if i can get this thing to go fast enough, i'll go get the tires balanced..

lookin for some drop spindles then i'll be set for some cruzin around in my spare time..

i'll post a pic of the tires when the fronts get here

Put 205-65 R15 on my 68 ghia on short axle so I am prettry sure that on a bug it fit. I am also running 205-65R15 on the rear of my 75 beetle.
