picked these up
the chrome on one of the 4.5" is CRAP!
and a little on one of the 5.5"
Im looking for
what they will look the best
and if i decide to sell them what would be more Appealing to the market
as they are now-
{cip1}
{hm's}...restored chrome and black paint ---EXPENSIVE
{bugster_de }...im believing blasted then just painted , dont look chromed
{bigracedad}... what i believe they will look like media blasted
blasting them and painting them is the cheapest
but im digging the chrome look
also should they be painted black like the top
or alternating black/silver like the bottoms |

SSM,
I have a set also, and the chrome is worse then yours. I am sending them to a shop in Colorado Springs that will chrome-X and powder coat the black sections.
Check out their site.

I can't find their quote at this moment, but I think it was like $175 per rim finished.
Hey, if you want to sell them I will buy them right now if the price is right. |

| do NOT use chrome paint! it just simply doesnt work! usually it will never harden and the first time you touch it will leave a nice fingerprint, even after a few weeks of drying! |

im thinking to either paint ALL of them but the spokes black

I like the look on this fasty, they look like those pop on chrome trims. You could sand blast and powder coat any colour and use these chrome trims?? My local powder coat shop (in Australia!) can do metallic colours with clear coats too. I guess that's common place all over the world?
I would do this myself if I could find an old set of sprints here.
Powdercoating is always good, no work, a fair price, looks good and is very durable |

It depends on what kind of car you're gonna put them on, if you're going for the unrestored look, leave them alone, if they're going on a nice clean show car, go chrome.
I have a set of early ones on my oval and since the car is not a 10 point car, I left them un-restored. |

Get some steel wool and clean the suckers up- spend an hour on each wheel instead of sitting on the forums!
They will look very good at the end. The steel wool wont hurt them much and in any case, you can then at a later date do something else to them.
Original parts are only original once. |

Original parts are only original once. That's what I did with mine. 0000 steel wool and a few hours of time. I still need to mask them off and repaint them if I decide to keep them.

From the pics he posted, it looks like the chrome is peeling pretty badly on a couple of them. Don't know what steel wool can do for that. |

media blast them and give them 2 coats of a good primer. then I used GM silver from the dealer for 60's ralley wheels.(3cans for 4 wheels). the beauty rings are from ebay, I believe 11/2" they where cheapo and need to have a good coat of wax put on them or they will rust fast. same size beauty rings front and back.... 4.5 rims on the front and 5.5 on the rear

bigracedad wrote: 4.5's in the front w/145-65.15 with a 5 inch narrowed beam and 5.5's with 195/65 in the rear. they just rub a little on the front at full turn.... but the rears rub on the top on the inside. I might go with a 185/55 on the rear and see. there painted gm silver with trim rings
so did you go to a smaller tire in the back or still 195s
currently mine have 185/60s on them
and my stocks have 185/65s
and i have a pair of 165s
so im undecided what to put on them
Is it the Height or Width of them that makes them rub
Or is it both |

| I still have the 195's on and they rub on top.. I would like to try 185's... Its a combo of both that makes it rub. I have to have the back of the car raised up to keep them from rubbing. if you are looking for that "slamed look" go shorter and narrow |
