So I saw an ad on craigslist last night that said,
"we have three ""carmaghias"" call if interested between 7am and 4pm"
today i get home from work and call.
but turns out they had just crushed the last one a few minutes ago.
kind of sad to hear.
But while i was driving my 66' today
a guy asked if i wanted to buy a 56' he has, and to come have a look tonight
he didn't know it was a lowlight,
so this may turn out in my favor 8) i guess well see soon enough |

So heres the story,
I pulled up at this guys shop last night. (which is another story in itself; i brought a friend with me because i knew what area it was in. haha)
and this guy brings me back to this lowlight,
it was a real lowlight and all,
except it was chopped and slammed, which would be alright if it didn't look like a five year old had done the work.
He had just cut out a four inch section from the roof, pushed it down then welded it together hahaha, you could tell this from about ten feet away.
whats worse was the back tail lights were cut out and replaced with some from a 32' ford. None of the work was done right!!
it had weld scars galore, but hey i guess he's into that sort of thing.
Surprisingly enough it ran, and pretty well at that!
he told me he wants $1600 for it.
It had a few nice original parts, but nothing too special.
Its a shame because he says it was one of the first 60 to roll off the assembly line.
But who knows if it was true, this guy was a little off the level and some of his stories were a little too far fetched hahaha |

If it really is one of the first 60, see if the VIN for the pan matches the body, if so, get it! You can undo the slam, there are roof sections in the classifieds and you can always sacrifice another to replace the pillars.
I would. If it's a '56.....
I would, is all I'm sayin. |

Buy it!!!
But off course only if that is true, what we all think it isn't, but you never know.
Even if it is one of the first 1000 or first 3931 :D , it still would be interested.

False alarm
I just got back from checking out the car. Karmann tag # 18,000 something :( ... Chopped and welded here, there and everywhere  Definitely the right car for someone looking for a slammed, chopped rat lowlight...Just not for me. Curiousity got the best of me. It was my duty to take a gander... I was really hoping to dethrone body #39   Like Patrick said, "you never know." Well, now we do. No dice...The owner is a real nice guy...I just didn't have the heart to tell him he was more than 18,000 + off from having one of the first 60 made...The guys into the slammed, chopped, lowlight rats should get after it...The motor sounded pretty good.. :) It had non-thinback seats but seemed to be in pretty decent shape 8) I think I was more interested in the Schwinn straight bar, skip tooth, brass plate, patinad beach cruiser he had in his shop than the Ghia. 8) Treasures are still out there somewhere... |
