View original topic: No love for steel wheels, or at least no repair...

I recently bought a set of mid-seventies Porsche 914 styled steel wheels (5.5Jx15, ET40) described as "straight and true". Well, I beg to differ. Two of the rims seem good, but two need a bit of work I think. On the other hand they were pretty cheap so I am not too upset about it.

Trouble is, here in the mid-atlantic I haven't found any shop who works on STEEL wheels. Several shops simply say they don't repair wheels, they just replace them. Two of the specialty wheel shops in the area, one in VA and one in MD will only repair alloys and don't work steel.

I don't know why I figured it would be easy to find a shop to check and repair the wheels. And on top of that the local radiator repair shop closed up sometime in the last few months. I drove by yesterday to check and see if they can "boil" a gas tank but they were gone. Now its a tint/stereo shop.

Damn, maybe I should get right back out of this hobby. grrrr. I should have another beer.
