Big rubber mallet.
If you are going to be putting new pistons/cyl in, just break them out with a BFH. |

| You could leave the head loose, put it back in the car and start it up, that'll knock that sucker loose  . |

what is the best thickness/guage metal to use to rebuild the floors and rockers? my dad gave me drivers side inner rocker and pass. side outer rocker, im thinking of using 1/16" steel sheets i've got lying around i got some thinner stuff too. the rocker look really thin so 1/16 should definetly be enough right? thanks
also does anyone know if anyone sells a replacement panel for the kick panel in front of the door to the firewall, or will i have to fabricate my own? heres a pic of said area thanks again

87mm or 88mm are a poor choice, as they have very thin cyl. walls. They will warp if they get hot.
Either stick with the 85.5mm, or bore our the case and heads, and go with 90.5mm, or 92mm.
Just about any online VW store can sell you pistons and cylinders. |

| really i was reading a vw magizine the other day and they were saying the 87-88mm is the best choice over 85.5 and the 90. my guess is they were refering to daily driving and using this as a baja probably would generate more heat and therefore negate their article.. |

| Well, I have been building VW engines for 45 years. I guess some magazine article knows more. |

i believe you can order just about every part for a vw bug body aftermarket.
this is from wolfsberg west. there are other places also, you just need to do a search on the internet.
