| Connecticut Volkswagen Association is having a show in Lebanon, CT, which is pretty close to the RI border. Information can be found on the CVA website www.ctvwa.org or under "shows" on the Community tab here on Samba. |

I'm out in Winchendon, MA, my back yards pretty much New Hampshire. I've got a few cars tucked away. Currently got my Notchback close to being on the road. There are quite a few VWs around my town. A friend of mine has a 77 convertable as a daily driver, and a 65 rag top as the back up driver. Just got to know where to look to find us, we are good at hiding around these parts.
My 65 Notchback S, an old picture.
My 67 Fastback
My 69 Fastback
My very early :D 67 Squareback
And the step child, the 73 412 :o

I'm in Southern Connecticut, and was looking for a place to post these photos that I took yesterday in downtown New Haven, CT, at a small neighborhood art show that was themed "Wheels" (featuring not only pictures of and artworks related to, but also actual cars, bikes, and motorcycles).
These two VW guys were there (only VWs among the gathering) with their kool Bus and Squareback, and I remembered meeting them both last summmer at the "Time Machines 2011" event (the red '66 Squareback made it, but I believe the Bus had mechanical issues along the way), ref: http://home.comcast.net/~commonsteve/TimeMachines2011/TM11Report.html
Anyway, it was great seeing them show up at the art event in New Haven yesterday!
As for myself, I live just a bit east of New Haven, and work in Stratford, and so I travel a good distance along I-95 each day (about a 50-mile round trip), and during the warm months, I deactivate my beater '96 Passat, and daily-drive air cooled. I did that for about 10 years with my former '68 Bug, and started doing it again last year with my "new" '70 Convertible Bug:
Looking forward to many more air-cooled miles this year... |

Managed to snap a couple of quick pictures from my beater '96 Passat on the highway two afternoons ago (4/24/2012) in Milford, CT, and couldn't figure out where to post them, so came back here...
This was a very slick looking Curved Windshield Super on I-95 northbound that I saw when I was driving home that day, about 4pm or so. I got a couple of pictures of him passing me first, then I eventually was able to catch up and pass him on the left, and get a couple more pictures from the other side...

Another Connecticut highway sighting...
Captured this shot quickly (too quickly--sorry about the blurriness--it was the only shot I was able to get, and thankfully didn't crash my car in the process) while driving home from work on Monday afternoon, April 30th, 2012. The location was Interstate 95 northbound, approaching Exit 54, and just past the now-closed northbound McDonalds rest stop in Branford. Looks like he's staying in the right lane, probably to exit...
Pretty sure this is a '71 Super Beetle owned by some local residents, who are nice folks--though I don't think they are "car show-goers" too much, so we only see it driving around by chance on occasion.
I would crab about how he should've had his top down that day, but, then again, I was driving my beater '96 Passat wagon at the time, so who am I to throw stones?! It really is a very nice car--and I have a soft spot for flat windshield Super Convertibles too, since my first car was a Clementine '71...

Nope, the lower one in the static photo by the East Haven Green (mine) is a '70 non-Super.
I think they may be the same color, though.
I also think some whitewalls would perk that '71 up nicely... |

They serve free, unlimited tacos with purchase of 1 drink on Sundays. They used to advertise but we go there almost every Sunday and invade the place so now you have to ask to get the free stuff. I guess we over did it. O'well… it all handmade authentic Mexican food and amazing!
That's only half of the local guys too. We're missing three more lowered bays and a lowered splity from that shot. I think that particular day we had some of the watercooled guys there too. I'm pretty sure there was around 13/14 of us eatin' free tacos 8) |
