In the process of relocating my grease fittings on my 4" ghia beam. I need the thread size so I can tap new holes. Anyone know it? The beam was narrowed from the outside and the new bushings will interfere with the old locations..

If you are putting new ones in, you can just make them for domestic fittings.
1/8 pipe thread. |

Domestic MD/HD truck fittings are 1/8"NPT, but not car fittings. Standard automotive grease zerks are usually 1/4"-28.
Good Luck! |

Sorry, 1/4"-28 is a straight thread. (regular 1/4" fine) 1/8" NPT is a tapered thread.
Good Luck! |

Sorry, but when it comes to grease fittings, you are wrong.

I've added grease fitting to items, most often lawn care attachments.
I've found that rarely is the steel thick enough to need a tap. Just screw it in and it cuts (forms) its own threads.
I don't know about a beam casing though.

I've had enough grease fittings blow out that I won't use self threaders. Regarding the threads, we're both right. According to the link you posted there's both 1/4"-28 straight thread and 1/4"-28 tapered thread. I never heard of this tapered thread before. Owning a truck repair garage for 25 years gave me way more experience with replacing grease fittings than I ever wanted, and I generally used a 1/4"-28 straight thread tap when tapping a hole or installing a smaller fitting. The larger ones were 1/8"NPT.
Have fun! |

Some place, I have a tool that was made special for reaming and taping grease zerks.
Was like a little 4 way tool. |
