I got a little double present to myslf in the mail today. I'm very happy. I bought 2 "Deadline" Styled Shift Knobs from Kaval Pewter 2 years ago. They have been through several designs as I have kept an eye on their stuff. I'm a hot rod guy at heart but I love my stock 66 Beetle. I show off my hot rod side with this awesome shift knob. When I saw that they had these winged shift knobs available I just had to have one...errr.... 2 actually. They are called "Archangel" Style Shift Knobs. Here's the deal for those that would like to ask. You have to catch the logo'd shift knobs on Ebay. They are customized by the artist and not sold directly through Kaval Pewter. I fell lucky to have been able to buy 2 of them together. The fellow is "EXTREMELY" busy with shows and regular orders so he does not get a lot of time to do these custom logo'd enhancements to a lot of knobs. So let me know what you think.... Dig it or No Dig it!
Way too heavy for an antenna topper but I had to take a pic like this! |

| I don't believe it! I checked some old family dental records and that's my grandpa Zeke! You should be ashamed. Grandpa Zeke would have liked them though. |

| I'd watch out for any HAs...they don't take kindly to the use of their logo by non members. You've been warned. |

Kaval does some cool stuff, he usually posts an ad when he does a series of the VW themed ones.
I keep wanting to buy one, but I have Berg and CSP shifters.
What does the winged one feel like to shift with? |

I was thinking the same thing. That warning should not be taken lightly. I like the wingless one btw. |

| I've been slacking guys. I have not yet mounted my winged shift knob. The non-winged one feels great.... nice weight. I'm figuring that my middle and ring finger will go between the wings and allow the knob to fit and feel like thew non-winged knob. I appreciate the input from all. I apologize for the treatment of Grandpa Zeke. He was always a little shifty anyway. Also please may the VW gods not punish a little bit of Fan Art. Check out Hot VW's this month. There is a nice Dune Buggy with one of the regular skull knob in use. My girlfriend pointed it out to me. Anyone else have a cool shift knob they'd like to share... let's post em in here. I'd love to see em all. |

| I have had one of the skulls without the wings mounted on my 71 bus for several years now but the soft aluminum bushings strip out after awhile. The seller replaced the first one for free a couple of years ago but now I need another one and can't seem to find one.Can you let me know who you got these from and I could e-mail them and try to replace the one I have now? thanks tsvw |

| Hey TSVW, I had the same problem. Maybe we are shifting aggressively? No the inserts that came with my skull were pewter just like the skull is made of. I had to keep tighteneing the jamb nut on the underside of the knob until finally it stripped out on me. Luckily I was at one of the local Florida shows and there is another fellow ... Stephen that makes shift knobs with custom embedments. I think they are still out of Daytona, FL and he also advertises here on TheSamba. He and his father are usually at the shows selling their shift knobs and vintage luggage and other neat stuff. His inserts are aluminum and I have not had to tighten my jamb nut since then. I'm not sure how much he charges for them but I need to purchase 3 more from him. I don't have time at the moment but I'll search him up and see what I can find out. |
