I checked my vin # to the chart on samba , but for some reason i geuss i am not reading right, can some one help me find out what year and model mu bus is. Vin # 1050315 is on tag in engine compartment

Beginning in the 1965 model year (August 1964), the VIN/chassis number begins with the 2-digit model number, i.e. 21 for Panelvans, 23 for Kombis, etc. The 3rd digit is the model year, i.e. 5 indicates 1965.

I think your Bus is a late 62.

the is a 23 on one side of tag. i dont know how to get the picture of tag on here

said mine was born in jan 1963

The model # is not in the #.

The model # can be found on the M-code plate behind the front seat.

I looked at a bus yesterday and wanted to check out the M code info but not understanding it. Here's the info

That's not the M plate. Look behind the passenger seat. That's the VIN plate which only tells us it's a '67 Standard.

Can you get the vin off of the tag behind passenger seat? If so here the three numbers I got, which would be the vin?

Not sure what's up with the "s" at the end, but your true VIN would be 236159860

04 01 (3) not (s) = January 04 1963

426= Includes 1500cc engine

013= Middle and rear seat plus panels in cargo area

114= 6 popout windows

145= Sliding door safety latch

UH= USA, Houston/San Antonio

231= Kombi

The VIN is the bottom number 1050315 January 1963

So if a bus has a VIN that falls in say Nov/Dec 1960 is it a 60 or a 61? I only ask because I had to get an indemnity bond on my vehicle here in NC. DMV inspectors came to the house to check it out and all. ALL my papers from the seller say 1961 but I need them all to be correct so I can eventually get a title.

Not sure when the new model year cars came out, I think it is in the fall of the year.

My Bug is a 1960 but it was built in September of 1959.

Do you have a clean title that would state the year it is registered as?

That's the problem. No title, it came from Geogia and doesn't have all the "proper" papers for NC.

I would think your Bus is a 1961.

The first 1961 model year Bus would have come out in August or September of 1960.

So if your Bus VIN date is Nov/Dec 1960, it should be a 1961.

You could get a birth certificate, but it would take at least a month to get it.
