Just got a 1976 Type 2 and I'm pretty excited. So far it runs great and everything works....except for maybe the heat. With the heat it depends how you define "works"

Congrats on your bus. I don't think I've ever owned a VW to where the heat "worked." Enjoy.

My heat works in both my VW's that is after about 15 minutes on the highway I have to start turning it down, or roll dowm the windows.

You can usually tell if the heat is working by the oil smell.

Congrats! My dad used to have a 1976 TypeII bus as well...he and my mom owned it around the time I was born. He has always said the heater sucked in that thing as well.
Now he has a 1970 TypeII Singlecab. The heat in that vehicle gets you toasty warm after a couple minutes of driving...you have to turn it off OR become baked alive. My Beetle is the same way.
We think it's due to the fact that the Bus has so much more interior space to heat up; you don't get as warm. There is less space inside the TypeII Singlecab so it heats up good and fast.
