Hello Fellow Northern Ohioans:

The COVVC (Central Ohio Vintage VW Club) has organized a northern chapter led by Mike Roecker and Dan Garland. The purpose is to generate and support interest in VW topics in the northern Ohio area. The first gathering we have this year is a VW cruise May 1 starting in Brecksville and continuing to Berea through the Metroparks. WELCOME TO COVVC NORTH!
As you may have read in the December, 2009 Zűndfolge, a Northeast Ohio satellite group of the Central Ohio Vintage Volkswagen Club (COVVC) has been authorized by the membership of this Columbus-based club. Activities will kick off in the spring of 2010. We’re not sure about you, but we’re already getting cabin fever and can’t wait to get back on the road in our VWs!

The purpose of the North Chapter is to provide a range of activities for COVVC members who live in the northeastern part of the state. Since it isn’t always possible to drive our vintage Bugs and Kombis to Columbus for many of the activities there, we are planning a number of events in and around Northeastern Ohio.

This initial message is especially pertinent to COVVC members whose telephone area codes--216, 330 and 440--and home addresses seem to put them in reach of a Cleveland-centered agenda. Do you know any VW owners who might want to get involved now that some events are closer to home? Please let us know, and we look forward to hearing your ideas on how to build membership and interest in this area.

However, since our support, both in the Zűndfolge newsletter and COVVC website, comes through the main club, all North Chapter participants should be COVVC members, which only costs $15.00 per year.

E-mail will be used for future mailings and notices in order to keep costs down, and you can always refer to our new COVVC North web page.

(Of course, all COVVC-sponsored events are open to ALL members, no matter where they are located!)

May 1 – COVVC North Spring Cruise-In – Starting in Metroparks Brecksville Reservation (see information below)

June 19 – North Coast VW Drag Racing Association Series Show and Swap Day, Quaker City Raceway

July 17 – Cleveland Metroparks BrookStock – Brookside Reservation, Cleveland

July 24 – North Coast VW Drag Racing Association Series Show and Swap Day, Quaker City Raceway

August 7 – North Coast VW Drag Racing Association Series Show and Swap Day, Quaker City Raceway

August 14 – COVVC Volksfest – Pataskala (Columbus area), Ohio

September 5 – Oktoberfest – Antique German Car Show – Berea Fairgrounds

September 11 – North Coast VW Drag Racing Association Series Show and Swap Day, Quaker City Raceway

October 23-24 – Piston Power Show – A Celebration of Speed – I-X Center Cleveland
