Folks,

My odometer quit working on my 1969 s-back, but the speedometer still works. Is it an easy fix?

Thanks
David

i just disassembled mine to fix my trip reset knob. its not too difficult.

this is for a speedo out of a 73, so might be different, but shouldnt be too different.

pry off chrome trim ring. you can try prying up the folded tabs. i used a small screwdriver to remove it.

remove successive layers of trim rings and plastic face. once there is no more to remove, turn the unit over.

two screws on the back release the mechanism from the housing. careful not to drop it or damage the needle.

look at the back of it and see if anything is obviously missing or bent. also watch out for parts to come tumbling out during disassembly.

wouldnt hurt to relube some of the components (only the ones that had grease on them before) with a light touch of lithium grease.

pictures of what you find in there may help us help you fix it.

no, to get the gauge out it, removal of the fuse box is necessary(or at least extremely helpful!)

when i removed mine i removed the clock and the fuel gauge first, but you shouldnt have to.

on either side of the gauge there are flat springs that lock in place when you push it in. to remove, get your hand up in the dash and push those springs towards the gauge. helps if you apply a little pressure on the face to unlock them from the dash. once one is pushed in, push the gauge out a bit (but not too much) so the spring doesnt fall back in place. push the other side in and push the whole gauge out. disconnect the speedo cable, grounds, and light bulb.

the bentley manual details this well, if you dont have one go buy one!

should not need to remove the fusebox on a '73 to pull the speedometer...
