I'm thinking about selling my 69 Beetle but I don't really know how much to list it for. I have started working on the car when I was 14 and have had it for 6 years, so I don't want to let it go for to cheap cause it was my First car.
Help if you can
year: 1969
Motor: 1641 cc
044 dual port heads with dual hi rev valves from cb Performance
40mm Solex Kadrons
100 Engle cam
1.25 scat ratio rockers
1 1/2 inch full mergerd header
late model Dog house cooler
1.5 Q oil sump
Rancho Super Street Trans with Super diff (I use to run a 2110)
Kennedy Clutch 1700lbs with dakin clutch (and a 6 puck too)
Hurst Short shifter.
Front Disk Brake Kit.
stainless Break lines
Lowered with 145 r15 in front and 205 70 R15 in rear
Pro car Bucket seats with 4 Point harnesses
Custom Paint Job with Toyota Speed Way Blue
The Deck lid is not on the car but I have it. there are little dings in the paint form the road because it was my daily driver.
I also have all the parts I took off like
original heater boxes, heads, carb, shocks, engine tin, clutch, coil.
I replaced both motor and trans 12k miles ago, ( except crank and case)
all rubber was replaced in 2007 and the car was garaged since then.
Please help, if it isn't worth that much I wont sell it. It has been in my family since 1979 with my mom bought it in high school
in the picture above there was a bent on the driver side fender which i
fixed.
there is no back seat but i will give the sub and speaker box with the car since it was a custom fit box but I wont sell "these" speakers with the car but basic ones that fit in the box.
let me know what you think.

I know you are asking for a rough price, but I'd say if it's been in your family since 79, keep it and you'll never regret it! You won't get your money back for what you put into it. You will, however, not regret having it around when your kids want you to drive them around in town for a stroll in your cool Beetle! I wish my beetle was in the family, but I just got it last year, I plan to keep it for a long while, if possible.

I want to keep it, but i'm moving soon and my commute will double and I need something that has better gas mileage and is more reliable. I love tinkering with this thing and keeping my hands dirty, but its time for a more practical car for me. Being only 20 I cant afford to have 2 cars :(
Eventually It has to go. |

| I feel for your story. I was in a similar situation when I was around your age. I had to sell my OG Genuine Manx buggy (3rd oldest known at time) because I couldnt afford 2 cars, moving for college, ect. That being said, You WILL regret selling it years from now, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Ive owned lots of cool VWs since, and you probably will too-- once youve been bitten, these things seem to find YOU  As for a price, Comb the classifieds on this site and you should get a good idea what to sell for, best of luck! 8) |

| I can say this....I've been in your position before....sold the car...and have kicked my self ever since for doing so. I've probably done that 3 or 4 times. Look at all your options....drive an old beater... in the end, it will be very hard to replace what you have for a similar price. |

I've got $500 cash right here, right now....j/k ;) .... You will regret it, but unfortunately, you gotta do what you gotta do brother. It sucks, because I had to give my '64 up that I didn't want to do. I regret getting rid of it, but I had to. :( :( :(
Oh, and by the way, be ready to be infuriated by your typical dumbass on craigslist offering you a ridiculous low price. Fuc&Er$!!!!!!
EDIT: about the price: shoot high and go from there. I don't know what you have into it, but be aware it is highly unlikely you will get what you put into it. Your ride looks VERY nice and you did a great job. |

I did some searching through some old pictures and found some old pictures of the car in 1979 and when the floor boards were replaced, hopefully I can get them up soon.
would $7000 be to much to ask? |

Well, ask yourself this: "how low am I willing to go?" If the answer is let's say $5,500, then post for 7K and there you go. I can tell you there are a TON of very nice dubs for sale that are asking a high price (high, but fair) and have not sold. If you are in no hurry, aim high and just see what you can get. Keep in mind bro, the economy is f'd and people are not buying right now, but that doesn't mean people won't....everybody are in different financial situations. |

| You will regret selling it. I was in your same situation (wanted reliable higher MPG car) at your age and sold a 74 thing for an Honda CRX. After regretting my decision a few years later I acquired a 67 Bus. Frustrated with routine maintenance I sold it for a down on a new Honda civic. 14 years later I'm kicking myself for getting rid of both. If you need a reliable high mpg car go out and buy a Honda with 50 - 60k miles and keep both if you can. The bright side is you can always buy another VW down the road but you may never find the one you let go. |

| Dont sell it you will regret it. Buy a beater pos honda or something that runs okay and drive the piss outta it. You wont regret killing a couple five hundred dollar cars but you will regret selling your Bug. Just my .02. |

Keep it!
If this is your first car, you can bet in 15-20 years you will spend countless hrs trying to find it and get it back.
Garage it and pick up sumtin cheap to drive.
You will kick your self later if you sell it. |

I reposted the same story with a couple new pictures and info in the late model Section. Thanks to all of you guys for your responses and you have definitely made me rethink the whole idea, but the Collage in moving to wont allow 2 cars. :(

Really, how much does this bug cost you to own. I have two cars. My 04 Nissan Frontier and my 67 bug. My monthly insurance bill went down because I added a second car. I only pay $11 for the bug. Gas it only costs me at most $30 a week. That's peanuts compared to what I pay for my truck and it doesn't hurt me to spend the extra on it.
I don't know what you're current living situation is, but can you leave it there while you move away for school and come get it when you are done? Pick up an old honda or an older Jetta or something for while you're in school.
As many have said, you WILL regret selling it. I guarantee you. My best friend still has his squareback from high school. He's had the car for more than 15 years and never plans on selling it. In all that time he has only mentioned selling it once and never went through with it. He is just as happy with it as he was the day he bought it. He never had to replace the car, he has never missed the car, he has never regretted selling the car and has never had to say,"Gee... I really miss that old squareback I had in high school."
Put the car on a non-op and park it. Drain the carbs and gas tank, disconnect the battery, put a cover over it and come back to it in 4 or so years. When you're ready for it again, drop in a new battery, pour in some gas, give her a good once over and she will run just like the day you left it. When you graduate college and you start settling down, you'll never have to say, "Gee... I really miss that old bug I had in high school."
Just my 2¢ anyway. |

| I would put a really high price on it..say...12k..or more and if anyone bites then your good and you can get another bug with a smaller motor?..but really..the bug can't be that horrible on gas to make you want to get another can it? |

Everyone else that has said you will regret it is right. I remember my parents telling me that when I was 21 when I wanted to sell my '62. I still regret it to this day.
I remember I sold it because I needed a reliable car and told myself I couldn't afford two cars. There's always a way to figure it out. Here is my 62 that I regret selling back in the early 90s-->
The new owner called me 2 weeks later to tell me he totalled it -- got rear ended.
I drove this car everywhere, snowboarding on weekends, up and down the east coast man I miss it. (notice my snowboard mod on the rack, I just used bungies to attach my board, it was perfect)

| I did the same thing. Sold my first car which was a 70 Beetle for a reliable car with ac. I grew up in Florida so it was HOT in the summer driving the Bug. After the engine going in that modern POS I wish I had kept my Bug. The down payment alone would have covered a new engine/trans in the Bug when and if it was needed. Keep your Bug. Save your cash. Get AAA. You will be happy you did. My Uncle has had his same truck for 35 years. Just something special about the memories he has in the same vehicle that he still drives all these years later. |
