Hi all,
Ive been reading these forums for years, taking in advise to other etc and helping me finish our car. Its registered here in NZ as a 1972 but Im sure it falls into this category. Its a 1500 with a 1600 dualport (I think) engine out of our last 1302 that had been rebuilt. Its had most of the rust removed and I done alot of cosmetic tidy up on it as well. We enjoy taking it out most weekends tho mostly locally as the drum only brakes dont feel to great to me. Hopefully I will get used to it so I can take it further afield.
Hopefully I can contribute some of my learnings now that I have signed up.

| Welcome and very nice! I really like the battery shut of you can remove the key and most wouldn't have a clue why the battery was dead! |

| Is that a 1300cc motor you have in your baby? I've still got the stock motor in my 66. I like the 1300 on the decklid, the European version right? |

| No the 1300 has gone, before this car we had a 1302 which dropped a valve on a long trip. We had the engine rebuilt at a pretty high cost so transferred it to this car when we decided this was going to be our rebuild car. Its now a 1600. Im not sure by what you mean as a european model? as I cannot work out what this car would be classed as in the USA shapewise. |

| All know is that VW kept the 1300cc engine in production and used it in Europe longer than just one model year (August 65 to July 66) like here in the U.S. |

You can go very far with drum brakes, just don't go there fast... Disc brakes is an easy, cheap and great improvement on late bugs... |

Welcome to the samba...
I had a great time when I was in Christchurch, NZ on my way to Antarctica. Love the Cantebury Draft! Great country and great hospitable people. The All Blacks kick ass! |

Pierre G - Ive got the not fast thing down, I jumped in the car a few weeks ago after not driving it for awhile, was doing about 45 mile an hour and tried to stop quickly at an amber light and it didn't happen as quick as I would have liked. After that a disc conversion is on the list of wants now.
67T1 - I really like Christchurch, my type of place. Went to the Antarctic center there and that will be the closest I get to Antarctica I would have to imagine. And yes the All Blacks do kick arse. Thanks for the welcome. |
