So after rebuilding the engine on the notch i noticed the cooler was leaking a bit, finally got around to removing it, not an overly fun job but oh well.I measured the oil passages and the cooler is 10mm, one of the holes in the case is 10mm but the other which was the leaky one is 12mm.Is this normal or not? also the hole isn't exactly in the middle of the recess. as far as i can gather the case is from a bus if that makes any difference.
So is there a specific seal i need? or do i just run the standard 10mm seals? also should there be washers with the 10mm seals or not?
Here is a pic

That is kind of normal.
So you have a late case. If your oil cooler has the part number on top, it should have the 10mm passages also.
You will need the thinner large diameter seals, with NO washers between the cooler and the case.
Looks like you also need the bushing in the ears on the case. You have the larger 8mm holes. It helps to keep the cooler square while you are tightening it down. Item #36

Ok thanks Russ, so you wouldn't be concerned about the 12mm hole in the case? its all kind of new to me but i though they where both either 8mm or 10mm.

| No, you definitely have a 10mm case. Yes, that hole is usually little bigger. |

Looks like I am having the same exact problem. From what I understand, I have both a late case, and a late cooler.
Hey Russ, what is up with the bushing you mentioned (#36)? Is it a pin that fits somewhere? I cant see a place for it.
I am left confused because it appeared that my cooler had never been removed before, yet it had the aluminum washers/spacers in place. I replaced the old seals with the ones above, but I didn't know there were different thicknesses available. My kit only came with one size.
So is it possible to get thicker seals, and still use the shims? Or is better to just remove them and remount everything I have?
Below is a diagram of the seals which I am currently using. Are these the 'thick' or 'thin' ones?
thanks guys!

If you have the late case, and the late cooler, you do not want those spacers in there.
Basically, late case is dual relief case.
Late cooler, has the part number stamped in it.
Those spacers you have are for an early case with the early cooler. That takes the big thick seals. |
